what´s already dead
Hello everyone! So I just wrote my first microfic (it´s really tiny so sorry about that) and I decided to post it. If anyone has feedback please tell me and thank you! (Please have in mind that I´m just a kid whose first language isn´t english)
ŕŠâŠâ§âËŕźşâŕźťŕŠâŠâ§âË
How do you kill what´s already dead?
The incessant question filled his every thought, while his feet dragged slowly through the cave, reflecting the fear that took over his heart.
Regulus Black had died a long time ago. He had died on the night that his brother, mutilated and hopeless, had ran away from home. Ran away from the hands that had made them both bleed and from the words that had pierced them like sharp knives. His brother, that wild and free spirit that could never fit in with the family that he was placed into. âFamily isn't bloodâ Regulus had heard him say numerous times. Did that apply to him too? Did the whispers ushered under the covers at night, the only memory from Regulus´s childhood that wasn´t stained by his mother´s hurtful words, meant nothing to his brother? Did the one that he looked up to for years look into his eyes and, despite the obvious similarities, think you are not my brother?
Regulus Black had died a long time ago. He had died when he witnessed his friends take sides, fighting for different causes in the same war. He used to roll his eyes and scoff at their childish tendencies, at the mischief they caused. But now he looked back at those days with dread, wishing for those times to come back. He was only eighteen, why did his teenage years feel like such a far away memory?
Regulus Black had died a long time ago. He had died the day that the one he loved had turned his back to him, as soon as he found out on which side of the war he stood in. This is not me, this is my family Regulus wanted to plead. But his words got caught in his throat the second he saw the boy´s brown eyes, usually so full of life, full of disappointment. Oh, that boy! With a childish mischief and the stubbornness of a mule, tan skin and curls that lived unruled, so different from his own. The boy with an ego the size of a lake, but an heart to match it. Blurry glasses and a smile that shined as bright as the sun. What he would do to see that smile one more time.
So Regulus stepped into the cave, slow step and blurry vision. He did what he had to do, and he faced the consequences. He felt his body get immersed in the water, his surroundings getting darker and darker. And when he tried to swim up, fighting to keep the little bit of life he had left, he screamed. He didn't scream his friends´ name, or the name of the boy that he loved. No, he screamed his brother´s name. The name that he called when he got hurt as a little boy and the name that he wrote on father´s and mother´s day cards. The closest to a parent figure he had ever had. But, unlike Regulus, his brother had the courage to fight, to stand on the right side of the war, to do what was right. So, Regulus died believing that he was a coward.
And, eventually, Regulus stopped trying to fight it. He was going to die as nothing more than he was always destined to be: a sacrifice. And when his lungs started filling with water and his body started going weak, Regulus wasn't scared to die.
How do you kill what´s already dead?

Perfect Replacement | R.L.

summary: Remus begins to worry about your well-being after seeing you act much differently than before.
pairing: remus lupin x Black Family!reader
includes: use of Y/N, mentions of abuse (both mental and physical), unfair treatment, bullying, cursing, allusions to receiving the dark mark, burning out, angst, smallest bit of fluff (lmk if i missed any!)
a/n: lowkey, this one was sad and requested by someone a while ago⌠iâm swamped with my own school work so this was a little vent fic for me :)
From the moment you were born, Orion and Walburga knew what you were meant to beâwhat you would always be known as. You were the Black Familyâs spare. If Sirius or Regulus was injured in a way magic wasnât enough to heal them, you were the person they tore open to find missing parts. You were nothing but a tool.
Worst of all, they refused to recognize you as even part of their family. What they wanted was a male heir andâbeing the first born before Sirius by mere minutesâyou ruined their lives. Sure, the legacy wouldâve still been able to continue with Sirius, but Walburga and Orion were furious when they saw a girl be born into the Black Family.
It was always your fate to be their spare.
When you were old enough to attended Hogwarts, they were quick to dismiss your presence. You were no longer theirs to care for as long as you stayed there. Hell, they even called Siriusâwho was sorted in Gryffindorâback for holiday while youâwho was sorted into Slytherinâstayed at Hogwarts with the school's staff.
However, they learned that Sirius was no longer fit to be the heir of the Black family. So they did what they did bestâthrow you into the deep end with no safety. Instead of letting Sirius get away with his stupidity, you were to take over his responsibilities until Regulus was suited to become the heir.
You were constantly watched to ensure perfection. It didn't matter if you were the top of your class or notâyou had to maintain the role of the perfect heir. The useless heir. Coming home every summer just to be scolded at was never ideal, but you tried. You pushed through all the extracurriculars until you couldn't feel the weight of pressure on you anymore. You just kept going.
You kept pushing and pushing until the worst thing happened at home.
Sirius left. He left you and Regulus with your wretched parents. He left you with more scars than you could count that you swore he didn't care much for you either. It truly was you against the entire Black familyâwith little help from Regulus whenever he wasn't being trained to be the Black family heir.
âLetter from mother.â Regulus tossed the cream envelope in your direction, unaware of how closed off and fragile you became since Sirius left.
You peeled the envelope open and did a quick scan of the letter, humming at the usual demands from you. Nothing new. âI need to go study, Reg. Iâll see you later."
âYou'll come find me for lunch, right?â He grabbed your wrist like he would when he was younger, alarmed that his whole hand could wrap around the joint with ease.
âI need to study for my NEWTs.â You give him the best smile you could muster, making your steps quick as you left the Great Hall. You loved your younger brother, but your parents would have your head if they found out you were talking to him rather than studying for your final exams.
You swiftly looped around the castle corridorsâpotions, charms, and transfiguration textbooks in arm as you made your way toward the astronomy tower. No matter how many times youâve studied in Hogwartsâ library, you found it easier to work in the tower. The library was filled with all kinds of studentsâeven the ones who weren't there to study.
Just as you made a sharp turn to the tower stairs, you slammed into someone more than half your sizeâall your books and parchment scattering to the floor. Immediately, you apologized and rushed to grab the papers and books, face warm with embarrassment when the person handed you your quill your cousin Narcissa bought you.
âIâm so sorry, I didnât mean to bump into you.â You clutch the books tighter to your chest and move around the figure, unaware that it was one of Siriusâ friends.
The one who watched you were a careful eye since you hopped onto the stool with a worried look in first year.
The Marauders were scattered about their dorm. Peter was munching on some kind of bread, Sirius was hanging upside down in his bed, and James was on his usual session about how Lily was the most perfect girl when Remus walked in with an unreadable expression.
James slowly came to a stop before tilting his head at the lanky boy, tossing a pillow in his direction. 'What happened at the library, Moony? Madam Pince refused to let you check out anymore books?"
Remus ignored James and caught the pillow with a swipe of his handâhis attention only on the curly-haired boy in front of him. "Padfoot, do you know what's going on with your sister? She looks like she might be ill.â
Sirius froze at the mention of you, ultimately falling from his spot on the bed. He rarely saw you back at home that he didn't know anything about you anymore. At least, not as much as he knew about Regulus.
âI⌠I donât know.â He admitted and ran his fingers through his hair in guilt.
âYou donât know?â Remus repeated in disbelief. He didn't think that when Sirius left, he would forget all about his twin sister. She looked exactly like himâonly now, she looked like she could break with one wrong touch. "She could be seriously sickâ"
"Look, I'll get Regulus to ask her what's wrong." Sirius crossed his legs and frowned when Remus still looked unhappy. "What?"
"We both know you won't willingly talk to your brother." He said and stood from his spot, mind running through different scenarios as to why you looked so malnourishedâwhy you were so malnourished.
Sirius narrowed his eyes at his best mate, "Why do you care so much about my sister?"
"Why don't you care more?" Remus scoffed and left the dorm, leaving the rest of the Marauders confused with his sudden interest in the Black's eldest child.
Though Remus cared little for the Black family, he knew you never wronged anyone. In fact, he believed you were Sirius' foil. When Sirius was off pranking someone with James, you were always studying for your next class. When you weren't studying, he found you speaking quietly with Regulus in the Great Hall. You were so quiet and reserved that Remus refused to believe you were Sirius' twin for so long.
He rarely spoke to you, but he knew something was definitely wrong. And he would get to the bottom of the issue.
âMiss Black, you need to take care of yourself. Your brother is concerned for youââ
âHe should not be concerned for my wellbeing. Instead, he should be concerned about his grades in Care for Magical Creatures.â You huff and push away Madam Pomfreyâs wand from your arm, tugging your robes over your body in a rushed manner. âI am perfectly fine and need to get back to my studies before the night takes away all the light.â
You leave the hospital wing and glance at your watch, silently cursing yourself for wasting precious time on a silly check up Regulus insisted you get. Althoughâyou had to admitâ you were too exhausted to make the trek up the astronomy tower to study. So instead, you made your way toward the library instead, the candles in the corridors lighting your path to the quiet space ahead.
Finding an open table, you get to work as quickly as you can. You flip open you defense against the dark arts textbook and begin your studies, hands shaking and eyes blurring with how exhausted you were. Willing yourself to push on, you started to mutter the words you read, unaware of the brown-haired boy looming beside you.
âYouâre not casting a spell, are you?â A voice spoke from your right, causing you to jerk in surprise.
Lifting your head up from the book, you meet warm, brown eyes, the feeling spreading across your chest before you pulled your attention toward the book once more. You couldnât get distracted, not when you were running out of time before the holidays.
âNo.â You answer truthfully before continuing to mutter about the three unforgiving curses, each one worse than the last. Youâve encountered two out of three of them and you prayed you never had to witness the last.
Right as you went to turn the page, the person moved to sit in front of youâyour eye twitching in irritation. This was your spot for the rest of the evening and you would like to not be distracted by⌠whoever this person was.
Huffing, you flip the page in frustration and speak once more. This time with annoyance. âIâm sorry, but Iâm trying to study forââ
âI see that.â The mysterious figure pulled out his own book, raising his brows when you nearly looked up from your book to see what he was reading. So close. âIâm here to merely observe. You are the top of our graduating class.â
âIncorrect.â You keep a shaky finger on the last word you left off on, finally taking a proper look at the boy who decided to distract you. âIâm tied withâŚâ
âYou donât want a tie?â Remus rested his head in his palm, hiding a small grin at your shocked expression.
You swallow thickly before going back to your book, refusing to acknowledge his presence for the rest of the time. It wasnât like you were intimidated or embarrassed by the boy. You were just confused and stunned by him. Why was he suddenly interested in you when he stuck so close to your twin? Perhaps your mother or father sent him as a spyâbut he was a half-blood, so you doubted that was the reason.
Remus sighed and began to read Jane Eyre, occasionally glancing in your direction. He noted that you were still here mentallyâwell, as far as a mere five minute interaction goesâbut your physique seemed way off. Though you werenât as tall as your brothers, you were a hell lot paler and way too ill-fed to even look remotely related to them.
By the time Madam Pince kicked the both of you out, Remus memorized the way you looked and stored it for later data. He thought that you would snap under the weight of all the textbooks and parchment you were carrying. He also swore you memorized each of the textbooksâcatching you repeatedly murmur the different facts you learned over your hours of studying.
But as Remus went to turn toward the Great Hall, you continued to go straight down the corridorâworrying him. âBlack, youâre not coming to have dinner?â
You stop walking and hesitate before settling on your normal excuse. âIâm not hungry.â
âYou studied for over two hours. Surely a snack or even just waterââ
âLupin, Iâm fine. I donât needââ
Before you could even finish your sentence, a familiar voice rang out clearly. A voice you havenât heard since he left you all alone.
âMoony! There you are! Weâve been looking for you.âSirius clapped Remus on the back, unaware of your presence. He never truly acknowledged your beingâyou assumed he learned it from your mother and father. âWhere were you?â
Remusâ eyes darted in your direction after the initial surprise from Sirius faded, but you were already fleeting down the hallâMary Janeâs echoing with each step.
âJustâŚâ He paused and shook his head, directing his attention back to the younger Black sibling and following him into the Great Hall. âStudying.â
Unfortunately for you, it became Remus' habit to constantly be around you when studying. No matter where you went to studyâwhether it was the damn astronomy tower or back of the libraryâhe found you. It became impossible to hide from him and you knew you were losing valuable time studying if you spoke to him.
So you just stopped.
"I brought chocolate today." Remus spoke, finding you by the edge of the Black Lake. "A piece offering."
Your eyes briefly flickered up to meet his and glanced at the chocolate, but you immediately fell back into reading, making him frown. You were frustrating him just a tad bit. It was the day before holiday break and you decided to spend your time on the freezing grounds studying than inside with a cup of hot tea doing something elseâhe wasn't even close to figuring anything about you.
You were just a ghost of a person.
âLupin, I canât focus.â You whisper as you felt his gaze on you, frustratedly reading the same line over and over again.
Remus muttered a quick apology and went back to War and Peace. But he couldn't focus. All he could focus on was the sound of you shaking underneath all the layers of clothes you had on. He pursed his lips and sighed, removing his own overcoat and draping it over you.
Freezing at the sudden warmth enveloping your figure, you meet his brown eyes and give him a smile that could be noted as a grimace. "Thanks..."
He hummed and took a bite out of his chocolate, letting you read for a couple more minutes before speaking once more. "Do you plan on studying over the holidays as well?"
Your tongue poked the inside of your cheek. Were you going to spend your entire holiday studying? "Depends on mother and father. They might coupe me up in my room and make me study all holiday. Or they may decide to finally let me join in opening gifts with Regulusânot like I'll get anything."
It took you a second to realize what you said to the boy sitting beside you. Honestly, you didn't know what he was doing to you.
Remus' eyes narrowed at your confession the second you covered your mouth with a shaking hand. You were never supposed to talk ill about your parents or you familyâespecially not to some⌠to a Gryffindor and half-blood!
âI-I have to go.â You stutter and quickly gather your things, rushing back into the castle without another glace toward Remus.
When you came back from the holidays, you looked even worse than before. Remus took one look at you and knew something went down back at the Black house. Although you did look more fed then most days, the circles underneath your eyes were more prominent and instead of rolling up your sweaters like usual, you wore them normally.
What happened?
But Remus wasn't the only one to notice the changes. For once, Regulus noted the changes in your demeanor. Rather than using your time to study for charms or transfiguration, you began to read books on the dark arts. The textbooks that once belonged to Bellatrix were passed down to you, causing Regulus to do his own digging into your sudden change of studies.
âWhat're you reading Trimbles' book for?â Regulus asked quietly as you pushed food around your plate, gaze locked on the ink in the book. "Did Bella get through to you about the dark arts?"
You subconsciously touch your left arm and bite your tongue. You could say it was your cousin's fault for she was the one to suggest you become one of them anyway. Yet you would never speak ill about herâyou supposed it was her way of showing she cared for you.
"No, it's just interesting."' You clear your throat and stand from your spot. "Finish breakfast, I'll see you later."
"You didn't touch anything on your plate." Regulus frowned and stood up as well, following close behind and grabbing your left arm. "What are you hiding from me?"
You winced and quickly pulled away, "Nothing, Reg, leave me be."
"I can't do that! You're my sister and I care about youâ"
Quickly finding your way out of a conversation you didn't want to have, you weaved your way in between the Gryffindor boys that deemed themselves as the Marauders, subconsciously grabbing Remus' hand and dragging him with you.
âHeyâ!â Sirius gaped at his best friend being stolen from him, earning a glare from his younger brother.
âFuck off, Sirius. Somethingâs wrong.â Regulus quickly spat out and chased after you and the lanky boy.
Sirius' eyebrows knitted together before letting out a loud sigh, following his brother to wherever you were taking Remus. After all the time he spent away, you and Regulus were still important to himâeven if he rarely showed it.
"What's happening?" Remus stumbled into an empty classroom and glanced at your heavy breathing figure, face twisting in confusion as you leaned back on the wooden door in exhaustion. "Why were you running?"
"I didn't mean to pull you with me." You rub your face and wander over to a desk, sitting in the chair as your thoughts swallowed your mind. "I just needed an escape from Regulus. He can be nosy."
Still confused, Remus simply nodded and sat at the desk opposite of you, wincing when he heard Sirius' shouting from outside the class. You let out a quiet laugh at your brothers' bickering before those laughs quickly turned into quiet sobs, shoulders shaking from the weight of emotions packed into each one.
"Oh." Remus murmured and patted his pockets down, taking a bar of chocolate and snapping a piece off. âEat, itâll make you feel better.â
You wipe your tears and look down at the chocolate, your stomach growling at the lack of food youâve eaten today. Sniffling, you take the chocolate and nibble on it, unaware of Remusâ smile.
âBetter?â He asked softly, biting into the chocolate himself.
There wasnât an answer from you, but he knew it helped somewhatâyour tears subsided and all that could be heard was your occasional sniffling and hiccups.
Remus had so many questions he wanted to ask you yet he knew it wasnât his place. Though only one really stuck out to him.
âWhy did you bring me here?â
You purse your lips and fiddle with the loose strings on your sweater, refusing to meet his eyes.
âI donât know.â You say truthfully. But before Remus could say anything else, you continuedâeyes shut because to you, the confession was quite embarrassing. âMaybe I just got used to you always being there and IâŚâ You drop your head into your hands and sigh loudly, âI trust you more than my whole family.â
He raised his brows but made no effort to say anything elseâknowing you had more to say.
âYou care for me in a way my siblings will never understand.â You murmur and peek between your fingers to find him slouched over to hear you clearly. âI canât⌠I canât tell you anything about what happened at home.â He opened his mouth to protest but you stopped him. âBut Iâll consider keeping the odd friendship you chose to start.â
Remus narrowed his eyes at you andâfor a brief momentâhe wanted to refuse. He wanted to know what was happening, why you were more conscious about how you dressed. Yet he couldnât find himself wanting to object your offer. If he could keep a close eye on you like this, so be it.
âYouâll tell me in due time, alright?â Remus gave you the rest of his chocolate bar, noticing the way you tugged your sleeve down once more.
âIf itâs fitting by then.â You give him a weak smile. âBesides, I think I can still be the top of the class without you. After all, I am the perfect replacement.â

black - November 7th - jegulus - @taylorswiftmicrofic - word count: 356 - trans!regulus (fits in with my longfic, Clandestine, but can be read alone)
Regulus was ten when he'd chosen his first name. When he'd sat in Sirius's room, hidden away from the rest of the world, and picked the name that reflected who he truly was, and not who his parents wanted him to be.
The first time he'd heard Sirius refer to him with his name, the euphoria had been inexplicable. A rush of joy and emotion so intense he'd lost his breath for a moment. That was his name. Not the name his parents had given him at birth.
But even as he grew and learned to not only celebrate his name, but who he was, something still wasn't perfect. Because as amazing as it was to be referred to as Mister Black, he was still saddled with the surname of his parents. The parents who hated him. The parents who hurt him and screamed at him, just for being himself. The parents he'd finally physically escaped, but was still connected to through a stupid name.
So, really, when the opportunity arose, the decision was the second-easiest decision he'd made in his life. Second-easiest, of course, only to saying, "Yes" when James had gotten on one knee only a few weeks prior.
"I want to take your last name," he whispered one night, curled in James's arms as they sat in their small living room, a fire roaring in the fireplace.
He felt his fiancĂŠ's breathing still. They hadn't discussed it at all, up until this point, and he knew bringing it up so randomly was probably a shock.
"Baby..." James whispered, pulling back so they could look at each other, "...you know you don't have to, right? I mean, we have options, we can talk about it. We can- we can hyphenate, we can both keep out own names. Hell, I'm so fucking thrilled to be marrying you, I'll be James Black, if that's what you-"
But Regulus was sure. "No," he shook his head, smiling a bit. "I want to be Regulus Potter."
A stunning smile spread across James's face. "Gods," he murmured, eyes twinkling, "that sounds so fucking good."
Regulus couldn't help but agree.

and what about it?

Summary: Continuation of this storyline. Barty and you keep bickering, to everyone's chagrin and no one's surprise â until you kiss, that is.
Words: 3.1k
Warnings: not proofread, use of y/n, absolute chaos going down, bickering, flirting, barty being maniacal and a bit masochistic, jegulus and wolfstar as supportive characters, literally everyone is silly in this
Note: you demand and i supply! i love these idiots
next part here!
The Hogwarts library was filled by a mix of quiet whispers and faint shuffling, with students huddled at tables pretending to study for the upcoming exams. In the very back, though, far away from the more studious lot, the Marauders and company had claimed their usual table, where studying was more of a suggestion than an actual plan.
James and Regulus sat closest to the end of the long table, side by side in that annoyingly close way that proved they were still very much in their honeymoon phase. James had his chair tilted back, arms stretched out casually behind Regulus, while Regulus, with an almost imperceptible smile, tried to look like he was paying attention to his Potions book.
âYou know, love,â James started, leaning in a little closer to Regulus, âyou donât actually have to study right now. We could always⌠take a break.â
âTake a break from what exactly?â Sirius interjected, still hunched over the parchment he was doodling on. âYou havenât done a single productive thing in the last hour, Prongs.â
James huffed, but didnât move away from Regulus, who was still pretending he couldnât hear any of them. âI donât see you doing any work, Pads.â
Sirius glanced at his doodles â an elaborate sketch of a Quidditch goal post being struck by lightning â before smirking. âThis is art, mate. Very productive.â
Remus, who was sitting beside Sirius and perhaps the only one taking actual notes, sighed without looking up. âYou two are hopeless. Some of us are actually trying to pass our exams.â
âOh, Moony, live a little,â Sirius grinned, pushing his sketch toward him. âWhat do you think? Could sell this to the Daily Prophet, right?â
Remus didnât even spare it a glance. âAbsolutely not.â
Across the table, you were trying your best to focus on the notes in front of you, quill scratching against parchment. But the conversation around you, mixed with the ongoing flirtation between James and Regulus, was doing its best to pull you out of your concentration.
âRegulus, would you mind being disgustingly in love with Jamie a bit quieter?â you groaned, tossing your quill down in frustration, no longer inhibited around Regulus after the past few months. âSome of us are trying to focus.â
Regulus did not deign you with a glance, though his lips quirked up slightly. âI donât know what youâre talking about.â
Sirius snorted. âYeah, right. Youâve been staring at Prongs like heâs your favourite broomstick all day. You two are worse than me when I got my new motorbike.â
âOh, donât act like you werenât gushing about that motorbike for literal months,â James fired back, a grin spreading across his face. âThis is karma, mate.â
Before Sirius could come up with a retort, you shot another glare at James and Regulus, feeling your patience wearing thin. âI swear, if I have to witness one more doe-eyed moment between you two, Iâm hexing you both.â
Barty, who had been uncharacteristically quiet up until now, leaned back in his chair beside you, smirking. âWhat did love ever do to you, sweetheart?â
You shot him an unimpressed look. âIt's quite obnoxious, for one.â
Barty grinned wider, clearly enjoying himself. âDon't you want to be obnoxiously in love?â he teased.
"I'd rather drink poison. Which I will, if you don't start focusing on our potions project soon." You rapped the textbook in front of him with your quill.
âOh, come now, darling, you know I'd never do that to you, Barty teased, lowering his voice in that infuriatingly smug way. âAnd there's no need to be jealous of Reggie â you could have all this romance if you wanted.â
You fixed him with a deadpan look. âWith you? Iâd rather go mad.â
âAlready driving you mad, am I?â Barty shot back smoothly, leaning in just enough to make the air between you shift. âI must be doing something right.â
Sirius let out a loud, exaggerated groan from across the table. âMerlin, can you two ever go five minutes without throwing insults at each other?â
âNo,â you and Barty said in unison, which earned a laugh from Remus and an eye roll from Sirius.
âI think they secretly like it,â James chimed in, finally pulling his attention away from Regulus just long enough to catch the tail end of your and Bartyâs exchange. âYou know, some people just communicate through bickering. It's their language.â
You crossed your arms, glaring at James. âI donât bicker. He bickers. Iâm just trying to survive.â
âYou wound me,â Barty said, pressing a hand to his chest with mock hurt. âAnd here I thought you enjoyed our little chats.â
âIf by âchatsâ you mean listening to you go on and on about how brilliant you think you are, then sure,â you shot back, arching an eyebrow. âI live for those.â
âI am brilliant, though,â Barty replied, completely unfazed, his smirk growing even wider. âYouâve just yet to admit it.â
You snorted. âThe only thing brilliant about you is your ability to push my buttons, when we should be studying, Junior.â
âNo need to study when we both know I'll ace it regardless." You hated that he was right. "I prefer putting in the work where it matters."
You quirked a brow at him. âSounds like laziness to me.â
âIt's called priorities,â he corrected, eyes gleaming with amusement. âAnd right now, my priority is sitting right in front of me.â
The groan that escaped your lips was loud enough to draw the attention of a few nearby students, but you couldnât care less. âYouâre insufferable.â
âYouâve said that before.â
âBecause itâs true.â
âAnd yet, you keep sitting next to me. Interesting.â
Sirius, clearly unable to help himself, let out another exaggerated sigh. âMerlin, theyâre at it again. Can someone put a Silencing Charm on them?â
Remus, who had been quietly enjoying the exchange, smiled into his notes. âIâd say just let them go. Theyâre only warming up.â
âYouâre probably right,â Sirius agreed, glancing between you and Barty as if you couldn't hear him. âLetâs see how long it takes before one of them snaps.â
You rolled your eyes again. âDon't worry, Black, Iâm already nearing my limit.â
âThen do something about it, love,â Barty purred, his grin turning devilish.
You leaned in slightly, narrowing your eyes. âI will, as soon as I figure out which hex will shut you up for good.â
Before he could retort, you flicked your wand under the table, sending a tiny jolt toward him that caused him to yelp and jerk back, the smirk dropping from his face momentarily.
James burst out laughing, nearly toppling over his chair. âOh, that was brilliant.â
Regulus, who had been watching the whole thing with a half-hidden smile, shook his head. âShe's going to kill him one day.â
âThatâs the plan,â you muttered under your breath, though a small, victorious smile tugged at the corners of your lips.
Barty, however, recovered quickly, his smirk returning full force. âOh, you love me too much to kill me.â
"I tolerate you at best, Junior."
"Same difference."
"I really don't think it is," James interjected, seemingly lost as his usual role of peacekeeper doesn't work with you and Barty.
"Oh, you just don't know her like I do." Barty's eyes gleamed as he stared at you.
The glare you shot him then was half-hearted at best. âDonât push it.â
"You know I will," Barty said and winked at you, before closing the small distance between you to press a chaste peck to your lips.
It was quick, casual, and without any fanfare, just a soft press of lips, like it was the most natural thing in the world â because to you it was. You simply hummed into him before finally turning your head down back towards your notes with a satisfied smile, happy for the distracting conversation to be over.
"Excuse me what?!"
You hadn't even spent more than a second looking at your notes before you were interrupted by Sirius's voice.
You looked up to find everyone staring at you.
James had gone completely still, his mouth hanging open in an almost comical expression of shock. Regulus was blinking rapidly, as if trying to process what had just happened, while Sirius had frozen mid-doodle, his quill still in the air.
The only person who wasnât shocked was Remus, who had broken into quiet, knowing laughter, clearly enjoying the chaos that was about to unfold.
âWaitâ waitâ hold on a second,â James finally sputtered, pointing between the two of you. âDid you justâ did I just seeâ?â
"Use your words, Potter," Barty drawled out, eyeing the scene with interest.
âYou two areâ what?!â Sirius repeated, still frozen with his quill in the air. His eyes were practically bulging out of his head as he stared at you and Barty like you had just sprouted tentacles.
Barty, completely unfazed, leaned back in his chair with the most satisfied grin imaginable, casually crossing his arms behind his head. âDating. Obviously.â
âObviously?â James sounded like he might actually choke on the word. His glasses were sliding down his nose from the sheer force of his shock. âObviously?!â
You shrugged, flipping through your notes like nothing at all had just happened. âYeah. Why are you all acting like this is news?â
âBecause it is!â Sirius threw his quill down dramatically, turning fully in his chair to gawk at you both. âSince when are you two... together?â
You exchanged a glance with Barty, who looked more amused than anything. âI dunno,â you said nonchalantly, âa few weeks, maybe?â
âA few weeks?!â James spluttered, his voice going up at least two octaves. He ran a hand through his already disastrous hair, looking utterly dumbfounded. âHowâ how did none of us know this?â
Barty gave an infuriatingly casual shrug, his smirk only growing wider. âWasnât exactly a secret. You lot were just too wrapped up in your own business to notice.â
âToo wrapped up?!â James looked at Regulus, as if his boyfriend might have some hidden answer to this impossible puzzle. Regulus, to his credit, had his head buried in his hands, looking both embarrassed and quietly amused. âReggie, you didnât notice?â
Regulus groaned, his face still hidden. âI noticed. I just didnât want to talk about it.â
Sirius gaped at his brother. âYou knew?â
âWell, I guessed, they're not exactly subtle,â Regulus muttered, still hiding behind his hands. âThey bicker like theyâre married.â
Remus, who had been laughing quietly this whole time, finally spoke up, his voice full of smug amusement. âHeâs right, you know. The bickering shouldâve been a dead giveaway.â
âOh, come on,â James said, throwing his hands in the air. âBickering is justâ bickering! We bicker all the time! I bicker with Sirius â doesnât mean Iâm secretly dating him!â
âI should hope not,â Sirius muttered, still looking completely thrown. âYouâre not my type.â
James blinked at him, momentarily sidetracked. âWhatâs that supposed to mean?â
âNothing,â Sirius said quickly, waving it off. âFocus, James! The issue here is this.â He gestured wildly between you and Barty. âThis... thing theyâve apparently been doing under our noses for weeks.â
"I really think you lot are overreacting," you said, giving everyone a half-glare.
âI can't believe you kissed,â James said, as if just remembering it. âI mean... you kissed. Right there. In front of us. Our Y/N and Junior. Like it's no big deal.â
âIt's notâ you said, giving him a pointed look. âItâs called a relationship, Potter. People kiss in them.â
James shook his head, looking more confused than ever. âBut you two have been acting the same as always! You don't even like each other! Actually, scratch that, you hate each other.â
Barty looked far too pleased with himself as he leaned forward again, resting his elbows on the table. âOh, darling, you really don't know anything, do you?â he teased at the same time as you said, "And what about it?"
Sirius made a noise somewhere between a gag and a groan. âUgh, stop. Just stop. This is making me nauseous.â
Remus was practically in tears now, wiping at his eyes as he continued to laugh. âThis is... the best thing that's happened today.â
James looked positively ready to combust. "I am so confused." Regulus elbowed Sirius when he whispered what's new?
Barty leaned back again, his grin never faltering. âIt's not our fault you were just too busy snogging Reggie here to notice.â
James immediately went red, and Regulus shot Barty a glare, though his lips were twitching with barely suppressed amusement. âShut up.â
âOh no, donât let them turn this around on us,â Sirius cut in, pointing dramatically at you and Barty. âYou two are the ones that have been lying this whole time!â
âWe werenât lying,â you said, your tone exasperated now. âYou never asked. Itâs not our fault you didnât notice.â
Remus snorted. âTo be fair, you do literally nothing to make it obvious. If I didnât know better, Iâd say you were just flirting through arguments.â
âWe are flirting through arguments,â Barty said matter-of-factly, earning a sharp look from you.
You jabbed a finger at him, narrowing your eyes. âWe are not.â
âWe definitely are,â Barty fired back, looking far too pleased with himself. âYou think of new ways to insult me every day, and Iâve never been more in love.â
There was an audible groan from Sirius. âMerlinâs beard, I am begging you to stop.â
James had dropped his head to the table by now, shaking it slowly like he couldnât believe what was happening. âI canât even process this. I need to lie down. Reg, tell me this isnât happening.â
Regulus patted James awkwardly on the back. âItâs happening.â
Sirius threw his hands up in the air, officially reaching peak exasperation. âI feel betrayed. Absolutely betrayed. All these weeks â months, even â and no one thought to mention, âOh hey, by the way, Barty and Y/N are snoggingâ?â
"Shagging," Barty corrected, to which you fully slapped his arm and Regulus winced.
âDisgusting.â
You sighed, resting your chin in your hand. âI don't know what to tell you, Siri. It never came up.â
âNever came up?!â James lifted his head from his hands, looking utterly scandalised. âYouâve been dating for weeks and it never came up?â
âWe didnât feel the need to announce it to the world,â you shot back, now fully irritated with how much of a fuss they were making over this. âWe were kind of busy with, you know, being in a relationship.â
âExactly,â Barty chimed in, his grin back in place. âWe were busy... prioritising.â
Regulus, still looking a little embarrassed but clearly entertained, shook his head. âYou two are unbelievable.â
Sirius, ever the dramatist, leaned back in his chair, throwing his hands up in defeat. âI give up. Absolutely give up. The world makes no sense anymore.â
âWas it ever making sense to you to begin with?â Remus asked dryly, glancing over at him with a raised brow.
âNot the point, Moony,â Sirius muttered, still looking entirely put out.Â
Barty shrugged again, looking far too relaxed considering the chaos heâd just unleashed. âYouâll get used to it.â
âI will never get used to this,â Sirius shot back, glaring at Barty like heâd personally offended him.
James let out a long, dramatic sigh, slumping against the table. âI need a drink.â
âAnd I need new friends,â Sirius added, still shaking his head.
"What you need is to calm down," you muttered under your breath. Sirius's gasp told you that he heard you.
âIâm sorry for wanting to know when one of our friends is secretly dating a complete maniac.â
âComplete maniac?â Barty echoed, feigning hurt. âThatâs harsh, Black. I prefer charming rascal.â
âI prefer punchable face." It would have been less convincing if you weren't smiling, leaning more and more into Barty's touch.
He grinned down at you and winked. âYou can punch me anytime you wish, sweetheart. Make sure it bruises, âkay?"
âOh, enough!â James looked like he might actually lose his mind at this point. âYouâve been complaining about me and Reg, but you two are so much worse.â
Remus, ever the voice of reason, shook his head with a faint smile. âJust let them be. This is obviously how they work. Iâm sure weâll all get used to it eventually.â
James and Sirius exchanged a look that clearly said we absolutely will not, but neither of them said anything. Instead, James let out a long, tired sigh and stood up, ruffling his hair as if to shake off the mental exhaustion of the day. âRight, I need a break from this madness. Iâm going to the kitchens. Anyone want to come?â
âDefinitely,â Sirius muttered, standing up as well. âI need some food to process this... tragedy.â
Regulus chuckled softly, standing to follow them. âIâll come with you. Though Iâm still not sure why youâre so shocked.â
The boys kept bickering and mumbling between them as they hastily gathered their things, while you made a sound between a scoff and a laugh, leaning into Barty.Â
âThank you for this gift,â Remus teased before throwing his backpack over his shoulder. âThey will never recover it seems.â
You shook your head, but couldnât help but smile at how much Remus had enjoyed the chaos. âYouâre a bit sadistic, Lupin.â
âOnly when itâs deserved,â Remus replied with a wink.
Barty stretched his arms behind his head, looking far too relaxed given the absolute meltdown that had just taken place. âWell, now that weâve gotten that out of the way... care to finish that kiss?â
You shot him a glare, though your lips twitched upward. âYouâre lucky I donât leave you after the drama youâve caused me.â
Barty grinned. âYou wouldnât dare. You like me too much.â
âYou know, the fact that you two are dating somehow makes your bickering worse,â Remus said, still within airshot.
âWe aim to please.â.
You rolled your eyes but didnât argue. âCome on, letâs get out of here before Sirius comes back with his 'and another thing'sâ
Barty stood up, offering you a hand with a smirk. âAs you wish, love.â
You took his hand, but not without giving him a playful shove as you walked past him. âKeep talking, and I might change my mind.â
âIâd still win you over,â he replied, completely confident.
As you walked off together, hand in hand, you couldnât help but think that maybe this chaos wasnât such a bad thing after all. After all, you had Barty, and you were both having far too much fun watching everyone lose their minds over it.

MANIAC

the one where you don't go back to the boys.
part two of the conan gray series
âi wish i were heatherâ out now!
synopsis: after getting cheated on by your previously expected soulmates, a change in perspective occurs and you find yourself falling for a different set of three.
warnings: foul language, slander on the marauders, sexual innuendos, mentions of smoking, a small taylor
"PEOPLE LIKE YOU ALWAYS WANT BACK WHAT THEY CAN'T HAVE."
Leaving Hogwarts early for Christmas this year was not something anyone could've forshadowed.
You, the girl who spent most of her time studying for her upcoming OWLS in November, had disappeared without a trace.
Of course most of your close friends knew where you were, and some not so close friends did aswell.
"She can't just run away from her problems." Said Sirius, his leg bouncing anxiously from the news Regulus had just sprung onto them.
"Sirius, It'll be fine, okay? When they get back to school, we can formally apologize and move on, right?" Remus attempted to reassure Sirius, but he in reality he felt quite crestfallen.
Lily sat quietly, already regretting her decision to do this with them.
In her head, she knew they had every intention to not cheat and solve things the right wayâ but she hadnât helped.
It all started one night at a loud and ear-shattering Gryffindor victory party after a successful win for their Quidditch team.
She got drunk, and they were completely wasted.
And you werent there.
So their drunken minds believed it would be a missed opportunity if they didnât take their chance with Gryffindors golden girl.
Lily knew she shouldâve said no, she shouldâve gone back to her dorm and hid from them for the rest of eternity.
But fate clearly had other plans.
And after secrets, longing stares, and lingering touches that the truth finally came to light.
and it was all at your expense.
âSoâ When will our Reggie be joining us, Meadowes?â Evan slurred, his voice carrying a heavily intoxicated tone.
âSoon enough, heâs got one more OWL to complete and then heâs on his way.â Dorcas mused as she gently pet the head of her tipsy sleepy Gryffindor girlfriends head as she babbled on about Quidditch.
Evan nodded drunkenlyâ before taking another swig.
Dorcas seemed so peaceful with Marleneâ who had surprisingly accepted her invitation to spend Christmas with the Slytherins, though Marlene truly wasnât prejudice against them like others were.
They seemed so⌠in love.
You had love once.
Remember?
Theyâre gone.
Remember?
Theyâre gone.
âIâ I had love⌠onceââ You hiccuped sadly, beginning to sob for the umpteenth time this evening.
You were extremely drunk, who could really blame you?
âAww⌠TreasureâŚâ Barty (who surprisingly was very sober) cooed, encapsulating you in a bear hug as you cried into his chest.
âHow many more times is she going to do that?â Asked Peter, whoâ by the way: lied to his friends and said he was going home for Christmas.
He was only visiting for the night, as he was currently visiting his girlfriendâ Sybil Trelawney who lived in town.
âWho knows, Pete. Who knows..â Evan slung his arm around him.
âThis should be the last time before she realizes that she doesnât need them, thatâs what the sprites are telling me.â Pandora smiled, petting your hair gently in comfort.
âPettigrew, you should turn back to your rat-pack and tell them theyâre trash.â
You spat, in broken sighs.
Obviously, Peter felt a bit of offense to the rat slander but alasâ they werenât aware of his rat-secret.
Quite a shame.
âSure thing, L/N.â
'FEELS LIKE WE HAD MATCHING WOUNDS BUT MINES STILL BLACK AND BRUISED.'
on December 19th, Regulus had finally arrived at Barty's flat he'd rented for the holidays.
Marlene, Dorcas, and Peter had their departure just the day before, leaving just you, Pandora, Evan, Barty, and Regulus.
Pandora had just wished you all goodnights and dream blessings before nodding off to your shared room for your stay.
"So, anyone up for some firewhiskey?" Offered Evan, who held a giant bottle of the substance.
"Just a small bit, Rosie." Barty accepted his offer graciously.
"Need anything, amour?" Regulus mused in your ear, by far he was the most comforting one. As the other two just distracted you with their own twisted ways of thinking and chaos.
"I'm alright, Reggie. Thank you." You nodded politely, you had felt incredibly off this break.
Though they all weren't stupid, they knew why you were acting strange.
Every year since third year; You and the boys would leave Hogwarts and spend Christmas with the Potters.
Snowball fights, roaring fires, Effie's hot cocoa, the memories echoed through your brain like they were music blasting from your headphones.
Every time you closed your eyes to sleep, you would see endless slideshows of everything you had ever done with them.
The nights of passion, the hugs, the pre and post-quidditch game good luck and good job kisses, the play fights, the happiness.
Your life was black and white before you met them, they brought the color.
But they showed you colors they knew you couldn't see with anyone else.
Well, besides your 'best' friends.
Were you really just that? Just friends?
You were a year younger than the Marauders, same year as Regulus.
and Sirius would be so pissed off if he found out that you were sleeping with his brother-
...
Wait.
Who gives a fuck about Sirius?
Who cares what intelligent insult will come out of Remus' mouth?
And James, he liked Regulus once.
They'd hate you.
But,
Maybe you wanted them too.
So, you ended up taking a few shots of firewhiskey.
Okay,
More than a few.
"Um- actually, Reggie. I- I do need something." You slurred, holding onto your sober ex-boyfriends brother best friends nimble shoulders like he was your lifeline.
"Yes, amour?"
"I want a kiss."
Evan spat out his drink back into his cup, and Regulus' face heated up significantly.
"I'll give you a kiss..." Barty clambered over his boyfriends as his cold, veiny hands meet your waist.
His hands skim your body up and down, before pecking your lips softly, as if he was asking for acceptance.
"Can I kiss you?" Barty spoke so softly, he may have been chaotic and insane- but he was extremely cautious and respectable with things like this.
"I-I wanna taste you so bad.." Evan cooed at Barty's sweet words, as he held an extremely flustered Regulus in his arms, watching the scene in front of him unfold.
"Barty- please, kiss me." You mewled, barely finishing your sentence as he dived into your lips.
His lips surprisingly tasted like cherry chapstick, even though he had just been chugging firewhiskey.
After feeling like an eternity, Barty broke your kiss.
"I've wanted to do that since fourth year." He mumbled drunkenly, gazing up stupidly and lovingly at your blush-kissed face.
His kisses were heavenly, and so were Evan's, and Regulus'.
And needless to say, you didn't return back to Pandora that night.
'YOU'RE POINTING AT THE STARS IN THE SKY THAT ALREADY DIED.'
The return to Hogwarts was an awkward one at that.
But returning back to Hogwarts feeling happier than ever with your boyfriends? That was the best return you could make.
Hand in hand with Barty, you strutted into the Great Hall.
Evan and Regulus trailed behind, as you rambled on and on to Barty about something.
James stared your direction, and you unfortunately met his gaze.
He wasn't dense, he could see how your bright smile seemed to dim.
He smiled, softly.
James knew that they'd never get you back the way they had you.
He should've realized that you were the light of their lives.
Everyone should've woken up to see you.
They hurt you.
And this was their price.
They had to watch you thrive, with three other men.
Who would treat you like a goddess, something they never sought time for.

some moonwater nsfw for fun:
âHave you heard from Remus today?â Peter asked, fiddling with his keys as James bent down to tie his laces tighter. The last thing he needed was to eat shit on the way to the pub. Sirius would never let him live that down.
âHe said he wasnât feeling social,â James told him, âyou know how he is. Prefers staying in.â They both glanced down the hall to Remusâ room, hoping he was feeling better.
âShould we ask him if he wants paracetamol or something? What if he has a cold? What if it spreads!?â Peterâs eyes went wide but James just snorted.
âPete, you have the best immune system out of any of us, chill.â
âBut I could be a carrier!â
âYouâll be fine, I promise.â James sighed as he stood up right. âDonât bother Remus, leave him be.â James patted his back and nodded to the door, leaving Peter little chance to turn back now.
âFine, but Iâm buying him some tissues if he starts sneezing.â And they shut the door.
Silence.
A moan.
âRemus, they could still hearââ Regulus gasped when he felt Remus rub deeper inside him and he slapped a hand over his mouth again, muffling the groan. Remus, lying across his back and looming over him, panted into Regulusâ ear.
âThey canât hear youâŚpromiseâŚplease let it out, I want to hear you.â He nuzzled Regulusâ neck and his boyfriend sighed, letting his eyes roll back as Remusâ rocked his hips down. âDoesnât it feel good?â
âMhm.â
âLove.â
âYes!â Regulus pulled his hands away to grip the sheets, fisting them as Remus reached places inside him heâd never felt before. âOh god, youâre so deepââ
âI know, I know.â Remus pushed his nose against Regulusâ cheek and groaned. âIâm close.â
âMe too.â Regulus turned his head a little and pulled Remus down by his hair for a kiss, making him buck his hips hard. âCome on, puppy.â
âOhââ Remusâ snapped his hips forward again. âIâll cum if you call me that.â
âGood.â Regulus smiled and Remus couldnât resist him when he smiled. It felt too good, and being called puppyâŚit melted him. He moaned and gripped onto his boyfriends hips, fucking him into the mattress properly now that the others were gone. Theyâd silently been lying like this for almost ten minutes whilst James and Peter tottered about getting ready, and it had been almost impossible to not pound Regulus with how much he had been tightening around him. The fear of getting caught somehow turned him on, and Remus wasnât complaining.
He liked the thrill of it too.
âFuck, Iâm gonna cumââ Regulus choked out from beneath him and Remus bit his lip as he fucked him a little harder, wanting to feel him go over that edge.
âIâve got you, Iâve got you.â He mumbled and groaned as he felt Regulus start to cum, which immediately triggered his own orgasm. They moved together, rocking and shaking as they slowly came down. Remusâ arms were struggling with his weight and Regulus smiled, gently tugging him back down so he was lying on him again.
âFeel better?â He teased, referring to his friends conversation. Remus chuckled, kissing across Regulusâ shoulders and neck.
âYouâre evil.â
âIâm convincing.â
âFucking when my friends are here is dangerous, you know.â Remus pointed out.
âLike they donât get laid.â
âThey do, but weâre louder.â Remus nipped Regulusâ ear to hear him sigh.
âYou are, maybe. I can control myself.â Regulus leaned up for a kiss, knowing Remus would take that as a challenge.
What could he say? He was competitive by nature.

Parent trap AU Moonwater because those two have accidental young pregnancy written all over them. Like theyâre young lovers with big dreams, Remus of being a writer and regulus of being a high fashion designer (like the original movie cuz it actually fits quite well I think) and theyâre hopelessly in love in the sweetest way. Theyâd be attached at the hip if they could, but there are pressures. Remus has stress from higher schooling he desperately wants and oh look he got accepted for a scholarship at his dream schoolâŚ! In America. An ocean away from regulus who canât go with him because his family is calling him back to Korea to shoulder the family legacy.
Regulus could have run away with Remus to America, and Remus could have come with regulus to Korea heâs sure he couldâve convinced his family Remus deserved to be his husband as the father of his children. But no. Their last words to each other are spat in anger and disbelief at how the other wouldnât ditch their entire life just for the other. They both take one baby and they leave and never think theyâd see each other again.
One twin (Teddy definitely Teddy) stays with Remus and lives a lower income life in the American south with his cult classic author father who has that cool accent and a mysterious past he never opens up about in that fatherly way fathers do. The other (cough name him Romulus cough) stays in Korea with regulus for the first bit of his life before regulus finally gets fed up with his familyâs expectations not for him, but for his son. He refuses to let his parents nit pick and poke and prod at his baby like they did for him, so he finally runs off back to Europe and starts his life as a very successful high fashion designer in Paris.
Both boys get sent to a study summer camp in New York. Teddy isnât thrilled at all to be there because Remus sent him there to try and remind him to balance his rebellious attitude with actual results academically (like the dad in SLC Punk style). Romulus on the other hand, is very thrilled to be there and actually begged regulus to send him there because heâs a nerd. Theyâre then terrified to see nearly doppelgängers of themselves arrive at the same camp (only difference is that Teddy has blue hair and a few piercings while Romulus is all natural babbyyy)
The boys hate each other at first and prank each other to hell and back before getting detentioned together and revealing that they have the same parents via the famous torn photo. They then do tehir whole swap routine, where Romulus has to get multiple facial piercings and Teddy has to dye his hair back to black but they decide theyâre just going to say that âRomulusâ got the piercings while at camp since real Romulus knew that regulus would definitely notice the scars.
Wham bam, they swap, and Teddy gets time with the mysterious regulus who he hasnât heard a word about while Romulus gets time with Remus who heâs only learned about when regulus somberly drinks wine and tells him who heâs named after. They LOVE it. Teddy LOVES Regulus, Romulus LOVES Remus. Remus thinks the camp worked and âTeddyâ simply cares more about his studies, Regulus thinks the camp helped âRomulusâ come out of his shell and heâs simply learned how to be more open and speak up for himself.
Dun dun, one of them gets a proposal (probably regulus but also I imagine Teddy is more likely to be the one to be a brat about being told his time with regulus is getting cut short just to stop a proposal he doesnât believe is happening but also I think Remus is way less likely to move on from anything ever) but yeah whatever the boys reveal themselves and the parents jump to get the right kid back and fall back in love mwah mwah parent trap AU đĽ°đĽ°

Regulus and James sit in the dimly lit kitchen, murmuring amongst themselves, when the newly-six-year-old Harry comes shuffling down the hall while cuddling his well-worn padfoot plush. The two exchange a look before James pushes his chair back, letting out a loud screech, and heads toward Harry.
"What're you still doing up, Har," James asks, while he scoops the tired kid up in his arms. Harry just flops his head onto his Da's shoulder, much to the parents' amusement. They share a secret, endeared smile over the kid's head.
"Couldn't get to sleep," comes Harry's muffled reply. He lifts his head to look beseechingly at Regulus, the sterner of the two, "Can you pleaaaaase play me a song? Pretty please?" Harry tops off his request with big puppy dog eyes and a jut lip. Behind him, James mirrors Harry's face, silently begging Regulus for a song as well.
Regulus just rolls his eyes with a smile and gets up from his chair, too. "Well, since it is your birthday, I suppose you can have one last treat."
He gently takes Harry from James, sneaking in a quick cheek kiss to his husband. Said husband just gives a goofy grin, and dashes to the living room. Regulus snorts at his antics.
Harry settles on Regulus' chest as James grabs the guitar from where it's settled by the couch. He sets himself up on their worn, red couch as Regulus sits him and Harry down on the piano bench right across from James.
Both instruments are well loved, with James' mismatched tuning pegs on his guitar, and the places where paint was beginning to rub off on Regulus' piano.
James strums a few discordant chords and turns the pegs a bit, before smiling at Regulus, who just nods back. He ruffles Harry's hair before placing his hands on the keys and making them hum.
James joins in on Regulus' melody, adding riffs and weaving through the idea Regulus puts into the air. Regulus then slows down and only plays chords while James take the lead with his guitar. They continue this conversation between instruments well into the night, far past when Harry falls asleep cuddling Regulus.
As Regulus' nimble fingers push the last key, and James' hand strums the last chord, they both sit and let their music ebb and fade away into the night.
Regulus smiles down at their snoring kid, then lifts his head to smile at his husband, who already has the softest grin folded on his face. Regulus lovingly rolls his eyes, then gathers up Harry once more, careful not to wake him.
Once he's sure he is settled, he leans down to press a kiss to James' forehead. James hums. And as Regulus slips down the hall to Harry's room, he plucks just a few more notes from his old guitar.

Death Eater Recruitment Age During The First War
In this meta I'll talk about Voldemort's strategy in recruiting underage Death Eaters. Fandom often portrays teenage Death Eaters like Snape, Evan Rosier, etc as officially joining Voldemort after they graduate or, at best, their 7th year.
But the most logical conclusion is that Death Eaters recruited as teenagers would have been required to take the Mark at 16 and no later - at earliest Christmas break of 5th year and at latest the summer after 5th year. Regulus joining at 16 wasn't an exception or an anomaly - it was the expectation and the norm.
Additionally, younger Death Eatersâ age during the First War is cited as reasons they couldnât have committed violent war crimes in the short time they were Death Eaters, but this too is contradicted by canon. Iâll go through the evidence for these points below.
1.0 Voldemortâs strategy
Firstly, I really don't know why people think Voldemort would have qualms about making 16 year olds murder and torture - given that Tom Riddle himself had murdered 4 people by the time he was 16 (killing the Riddles summer after his 4th year at 15 years old) as well as tortured students ("nasty incidents") with his gang.
Yes, many characters in HBP claim that thereâs no way Draco was marked because heâs only 16 and still in school - but the whole point is that theyâre wrong, that Draco WAS Marked at 16, that Voldemort thought Hogwarts was a good recruiting ground, that he was creating child soldiers. The whole point is to recruit them young - when they're most vulnerable and malleable.
On the other hand, it's unlikely that they were allowed to be Marked younger than 16 - Regulus was eager to join years before he was Marked, so if there was a way for him to be initiated sooner, he would've taken it. From Voldemort's POV, he'd want the Black heir under his control, so he would've Marked Regulus as early as was possible under Death Eater protocol. (Sirius also runs away at 16, so itâs a possibility that this had to do with Voldemort recruiting him at that age.)
So presumably, Voldemort chose an age where they're young enough to be easily manipulated, but old enough to be competent as Death Eaters.
(While Tom killed his family a year earlier, his proto-Death Eater gang was involved in their first murder together at the same age - Myrtle end of their 5th year; which imo was accidental but fits the tradition).
But once they reach that age - there's no stalling. Future teenage Death Eaters would be trained for maybe months, maybe years, before finally taking the Mark at 16.
Voldemort wants his army and he wants it now. You don't get to wait around to take the mark. Even marking a Death Eater at 17 vs. 16 is a whole entire year of the war wasted where Voldemort could have them under his control and doing useful things for him.
(It's possible the recruiting pace was a bit slower pre-war, but once the war started Voldemort needed as many Death Eaters as he could get.)
Certainly no important pureblood heir would be marked later than 16. Marking an heir means Voldemort has solidified his control over that familyâs wealth and political/magical resources (at least in future).
Despite being Hogwarts students, teenage Death Eaters still have substantial windows of time when they could be committing crimes for Voldemort - 2 months of summer; 1 month combining Christmas/Easter breaks; Hogsmeade weekends; maybe ways of sneaking out other weekends. (Even many adult Death Eaters do have day jobs and keep up appearances of normal lives.)
They could also get a lot done at Hogwarts itself - spywork (i.e. out muggleborns hiding their status, similarly gather info on political enemies via other students), magical research (esp. given they have access to the Hogwarts library which Voldemort doesnât - presumably, this is a library as coveted as pureblood libraries), invent things and experiment (i.e. Snape inventing Levicorpus which we know the Death Eaters used), and most notably, commit war crimes on campus.
Examples include Mulciber and Avery torturing Mary Macdonald with Dark Magic - which clearly wasnât an isolated incident - and Snape having used Sectumsempra so often at Hogwarts it became known as his specialty. This is the kind of terror junior Death Eaters would be expected to perform on campus during the war.
Then there's the Dark Mark itself. The way the Death Eaters are bound to Voldemort parallels house-elf enslavement contract, and the Dark Mark is the main way of enforcing it - itâs a tracking device (per Karkaroff), a communication device, a means of control, a way to make sure you don't escape. So of course Voldemort would want to brand his followers as soon as he could. (see also: this meta on the Dark Mark by @artemisia-black)
2.0 Examples
Regulus (waiting to join years earlier) took the Mark at 16. Draco, Marked the summer after his 5th year, only a month or two after he turned 16. Barty Jr. was 19 in 1982 during the Longbottom trial, so it's a reasonable extrapolation that he too was Marked at 16, particularly since he was very dedicated and loyal to Voldemort and would've been desperate to join ASAP. As Lucius was clearly instrumental in recruiting Snape (and logically there have to be Death Eaters on campus recruiting), I assume he was Marked by the time the Marauders entered Hogwarts, so likely Marked at 16 too.
Then there's the fact that the Death Eaters is a multigenerational cult and that Voldemort expects the kids of his Death Eaters to join - examples are Mulciber, Avery, Rosier. These kids were essentially born into the cult and inherited being a Death Eater, they've known since childhood that they would be expected to take the Mark, and perhaps were trained for it very early, so there's no reason they wouldn't be Marked at 16.
Of course, not all Death Eaters are recruited underage, there are plenty recruited as adults - when you're recruited matters when Voldemort actually notices you, or when he needs you (i.e. Peter was recruited much later on, purely as a spy). Other exceptions to the âMarked at 16â rule would be if the Death Eater isn't politically useful enough (heirs from less powerful pureblood families etc) and if they weren't talented enough by 16 and would require more training.
Regarding Snape specifically, he became friends with Lucius Malfoy as soon as he entered Hogwarts, and stayed friends with the Malfoys long into his adult years. Lucius would've been the main one to bring him into Death Eater circles (particularly since Lucius would've graduated Snape's first or second year, and the rest of their contact had to be out of school, perhaps Lucius inviting him to events with Death Eaters, etc.)
His friendship with his gang - Mulciber, Avery, Rosier - would function likewise, especially because they're not just any junior Death Eaters, they're the children of Tom Riddle's original gang. So, Snape was pulled into the network of pretty high ranking Death Eaters from the very start.
Snape's talent was also apparent to everyone from the get go (i.e. Siriusâs statement that Snape was famous for the Dark Arts at school, and as a first year knew more curses than half the kids in 7th year). Therefore, he wouldâve been on the Death Eatersâ radar long before SWM, and thereâs no reason for them to wait until then to recruit and train him. Most likely he was training under Voldemort as his student his 5th year, perhaps even 4th year, and then took the Mark summer after 5th year. (In this fic, he's already taken it by SWM, because teen Death Eaters take the Mark their first school holiday after turning 16, which was 5th year Christmas break for Snape, which is an interesting and believable scenario).
And no, his status as a poor halfblood wouldn't be an issue - canonically Voldemort makes poor Death Eaters high ranking (Snape, Amycus, Alecto), as well as female Death Eaters.
This, of course, conflicts with a certain narrative parts of fandom want to push about Snape being driven to the Death Eaters due to the Maraudersâ bullying and Lily breaking off the friendship - because in any realistic scenario the Death Eaters would have recruited him long before this happened.
Regarding the level of violence teenage Death Eaters commit, it makes sense to me that you'd have to kill to be Marked - Voldemort is not going to have his Death Eaters hesitate before killing and mess up his missions (Additionally, once theyâve committed crimes for him he could use exposing them as a threat to keep them in line). I HC that you have to cast all three Unforgiveables on a victim to be Marked.
So, this means that all your faves like Regulus, Snape, Evan, Barty, that fandom often whitewashes, did in fact commit many violent war crimes while they were Death Eaters. Potentially Draco is the exception to this wrt actual murder (we know he's using the Imperius and Cruciatus 6th year), though it's always possible Voldemort made him murder someone off screen and we just didn't see it. (ETA: Itâs also a misconception that Draco being Marked was only to punish Lucius - the punishment was that Draco was assigned a suicide mission that he couldnât possibly succeed at in being ordered to kill Dumbledore. Itâs likely he wouldâve been Marked even without those circumstances.)
As more examples of this, even Crabbe and Goyle - who were not Marked or trained as official Death Eaters - are torturing first years with the Cruciatus their entire 7th year under the instruction of the Carrows, and presumably students in the years below them were also forced to do the same. (Crabbe also tries to cast an Avada Kedavra, so it's possible he murdered someone for the Death Eaters outside of campus.) This is further proof that Death Eaters have no issue making underage students commit violent war crimes.
3.0 Conclusion
We can extrapolate from the known numbers we have - Lucius Malfoy in his year, 3-5 Death Eaters in the Marauders' year (Mulciber, Avery, Snape, Rosier, Wilkes), Barty Jr. in the year below, Regulus in the year below that - that there were a few wannabe and/or actually Marked Death Eaters in every class year during the war.
So, Hogwarts during the first war wasn't just full of Wannabe Death Eaters - it was also full of actual Death Eaters who were already actively murdering and torturing others.
And this contextualizes the Marauders' actions in their Hogwarts years, and why they would've been pushed to that kind of violence to protect others on campus. (read more about that in this meta)

@jegulus-microfic april 1 - spring - 1340 words (of domestic bliss with little harry)
Sundays are slow in the Potter household.
One would think James doesnât like the pace of it, always having to do something usually, always active, moving around or talking, tugging at his loved ones or caressing their skin, but he does. It hasnât always been this way but with getting older and especially since theyâve become parents James had noticed how his body and mind welcomed the one break in the week to just shut off and recharge.
Theyâve fought their way through a cloudy March and with the arrival of April, spring is finally here.Â
James loves spring. People always assume itâs summerâand credit to them, because he doesâbut thereâs just something about the rebirth of everything that comes after the long gloomy fall and icey winter period. The birds chirp with their return and in search for a mate, insects buzz lively and everything brightens with colour.Â
Like clockwork, Harry appears in the threshold of the master bedroom at around 7 am, deer plushie in a tight grip by the antlers, his dark mob of hair messy as anything. He drowsily rubs the sleep from his eyes, face squished and James sometimes thinks he might die from how adorable their four year old is.
He grabs his glasses, pushes back the sheets and plants a gentle kiss on Regulusâ cheek where heâs still knocked out like the dead and smushed into his pillow.
Harry pads wordlessly into the living room, James hot on his trail. Though while Harry goes in search of a childrenâs book for James to read to him, James makes a detour to the kitchen. He fills them two bottles with the tea they let out on the counter overnight, preparing one for Regulus as well for when he wakes up. He cuts up some fruit and vegetables and grabs the packets of rice cakes and crackers from the pantry, loading it all on a tray before he sets on to the living room.
Harry is already curled under the big fleece blanket they keep there, grinning when James rounds the corner with their pre-breakfast.
âMorning, dada,â he greets, sweetly.
Jamesâ chest swells. âMorning, pumpkin,â he returns, pressing a kiss into Harryâs hair, setting down the tray. Before he takes his place next to his son he walks over to open the big terrasse glass doors.Â
âHowâd you sleep?â James asks, plopping down next to Harry who immediately snuggles closer, plushie still in hand.
âGood,â Harry sighs contently and James canât help himself when he brushes some of his hair back from his forehead and kisses him again. âCan you read to me?â
Itâs a hidden object book but James knows what he means. He grins, ââCourse, Hazza.â
They do just that for a bit, James describing whatâs going on on the pages, creating a story for recurring characters. Skipping back and forth with Harry randomly pointing out another happening of the drawing while heâs munching away on his rice cakes and cucumbers and the occasional grape.Â
Itâs still mildly cool, especially when a faint breeze picks up, moving the grass outside and swishing inside but Harryâs still wearing long pyjamas and James knows heâll tell him if heâs too cold. He simply burrows further under the blanket and into his fatherâs side. James runs hot anyways.
When Harry decides theyâre done with books James puts on a nature documentary for them.
Theyâre teaching about the strength of some rainforest ant species when Regulus shuffles into the room, arms wrapped around himself and eyes nearly closed.
âMorning, Papa,â Harry whispers excitedly, already wiggling out of Jamesâ embrace even though he knows Regulus will join them there in just a moment.
A smile tugs at Regulusâ lips as he blinks his eyes open, dark lashes fluttering agonisingly beautifully and giving way to soft grey. James swears they get a little more blue every time right around his birthday, like Regulus is just another subject to the changes of spring.
âMorninâ,â Regulus sighs happily when he squeezes Harry against his chest, peppering the side of his head with kisses until he pulls away, tugging Regulus along to James.
His eyes are already closed again when Regulus nuzzles into the crook of Jamesâ neck, pressing a kiss there before he gets comfortable.
âMorning, love,â James murmurs, voice thick with adoration, audible even to himself, and he strokes Regulusâ exposed arm softly.
The spell of Sunday is thick in the air, heavy in their bones.Â
Harry, usually the most lively child, always animatedly talking about something or the other, giggling, making jokes or doing mischief, is quiet now too. Itâs routine, the way he grabs for Regulusâ arm and squeezes between his two dads, waiting for James to absently card his fingers through their hair and send them back to their slumbers.
It doesnât take longer than five minutes before Harryâs breaths are deepening and itâs marvellous. Magical in the way that Regulusâ presence seems to calm him so much it pulls him back into another nap.
James smiles so wide, looking down at them like that for so long that his cheeks start straining.
He watches a bit more of the documentary, snaps a few obligatory pictures of them on his phone and sends them into their family group chat. Monty sends back a pixelated picture of a zoomed in shot of Effie in the garden, Sirius replies with a shaky snapshot of him running with the dogs and Remus answers with an aesthetically pleasing picture of what seems to be the breakfast heâs preparing for the two of them.
Jamesâ belly growls hungrily at the reminder and when his gaze falls on the lone grape sitting in the bowl on the tray he decides itâs time for breakfast.Â
Itâs nothing short of artful the way he extracts himself from besides Harry and Regulus without rousing them before he heads for the kitchen.
He grabs flour and sugar, eggs and milk for pancakes, as well as the bacon, bagles and cream cheese. Itâs meditative to put together all the ingredients, set the table and assemble syrup and blueberries and chocolate chips. Halfway through James remembers the leftover quinoa in the fridge and between placing patches of batter in a sizzling pan he whips them up a quick salad as well.Â
The smell in the kitchen is divine and James has already made acquaintances with the joyful bluetit in the tree by the window by the time Regulus comes into the kitchen with Harry on his hip. Heâs babbling now, talking Regulusâ ear off by the looks of it and Regulus hums and nods and gasps at all the right places, looking ridiculously endearing with his curls mussed and an imprint of the couch cushion lining his cheek.
âMorning, champ,â James teases, smacking a loud kiss over the line in Regulusâ cheek.
Regulus growls quietly, grinning despite himself, âYouâre lucky I love your cooking so much.â
âYeah, youâre lucky,â Harry parrots, grinning widely.
James tuts with faux affront, âWhat kind of sentiments are you teaching our poor child, Regulus. Iâve been standing in this kitchen for hours now. How about a âThank you, daddyâ?â
âThank you, daddy,â they both reply in unison though Regulusâ has a decidedly different tone to it that makes James point the spatula at him in warning.
Regulus just smirks before he leans heavily into Jamesâ side and rips a piece of pancake off of the ones already on a plate, blowing on it before dividing it in half and feeding it to Harry and himself.
James tasks them with setting out glasses of water and orange juice, mugs for tea. On Sundays coffee is banned in the Potter house. Regulus thinks he can wind himself out of his caffeine addiction that way.
When everyone is done and everything is in place they all sit down together, legs tangled under the table, smiling warmly at each other over their plates of delicious food, the spring breeze ruffling their hair and clothes pleasantly as it drifts through the open window.

ăťď˝ĄCat's First Snow âď¸
You've ordered: cookies and cream ice cream! enjoy!

"Twenty-four to twenty-five, bae. Just stay with me." (partly inspired by "24 to 25" by Stray Kids)
animagus! Regulus Black x reader | word count: 1,492 words
Summary: it snows at hogwarts! but, guess who hates the cold? âď¸ (silly little drabble)
Warnings: a bit of cursing (lighthearted)! not really warnings, but: reader's favorite season is winter, regulus takes the animagus form of a cat.
Note: i swear, i was giggling and kicking my feet writing this đ¤ yes, i'm reusing marauders/ skittles characters. again, i'm still getting caught up on marauders/ harry potter stuff in general. this fic is based on this post i made.
The courtyard grounds of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry were blanketed in a pillowy white layer of snow. Excitement emanated through the corridors and hallways of the school as students and faculty alike talked of taking pleasure in the wondrous winter display. Basically, everyone was ready for classes to end so they could go out and play in the snow.
Well...not everyone.
You see, your boyfriend, Regulus Black: he hated the cold. Hated with a capital H. Ever since he was a child, the Slytherin was never fond of the chilly weather of fall and winter, always wrapped to the nines in layers of sweaters and jackets. Not even a single wisp of cold air could touch him without him kicking up a fuss.
Obviously, this was a problem since you lived for the cold weather of winter. Getting to splurge on cute, fluffy sweaters, tins of flavored hot chocolate mix, and jars of various teas made your heart pound with joy. And of course, playing in the snow was just as fun.
"Boys versus girls snowball fight in ten minutes!" Evan yelled, throwing his scarf around his neck as he, Barty, and James made a mad dash down the hallway.
"Losers have to shove snow down their shirts!" Sirius chimed in, he and Remus following after the others.
"They're so immature." Pandora grumbled, rolling her eyes as she watched her brother run down the hallway like an idiot.
"I know right....But, we're winning the fight, right?" Marlene asked, nudging Dorcas in her side.
"Oh definitely." Dorcas responded, Lily giving them a thumbs up before looking around.
"Have any of you seen Y/n? I could've sworn they were just with us." Lily asked, the girls looking around in confusion.
Just where were you?
"Reg, please? It's not even that bad, I swear!" Oh, there you were, currently trying to persuade Regulus to come outside with you guys.
You knew it was a futile effort. He'd never agree.
"I don't care, I said I'm not coming." the stubborn Slytherin refused, tucking himself deeper into the blankets he had piled around him.
"You're being ridiculous."
"And what's so ridiculous about not wanting to freeze to death?" he quipped in a rather dramatic tone that made you bite back a laugh.
"Fine, I'll just go out myself. And have fun with the others..." you said, glancing over at Regulus to see if your words had affected him.
"Alright, have fun."
You frowned, getting up and buttoning up your jacket. "But even though I'll be with them, I'll still be a little...lonely. If only my boyfriend would come and keep me company...." Nothing.
"Y/n, I know what you're doing." he said, not even looking up from his book.
"Fuck you, Regulus Black." you groaned.
"Maybe after your snow day." he smiled to himself, knowing he got under your skin as he heard the door slam shut.
. Ýâ âš . ÝË . Ý. Ýâ âš . ÝË . Ý. Ýâ âš . ÝË . Ý. Ýâ âš . ÝË . Ý. Ýâ âš . ÝË . Ýâ âš . ÝË . Ý. Ýâ
"Look at him, all warm and cozy, while we're all freezing our asses off." Evan huffed. You were all peering in through the window of the common room, watching a familiar black cat enjoying the comfort of the fireplace.
"You thinking what I'm thinking?" Barty whispered to you, a sly grin on his pierced lips.
"Absolutely." you nodded, giving him the same grin as the two of you slipped away from the group. Yoi waited in the corridor, peeking through one of the windows.
Barty quietly stepped into the room, the black cat now stretching out on the couch. The Crouch boy carefully tiptoed over to the couch, leaning over it and giving regulus a smile. "Hey Reg...don't hate me too much after this."
The cat equivalent of a scream was heard as Barty swiftly scooped up the poor feline, shoving him into his coat. You had to try your best not to burst into a fit of laughter, your hand slapped over your mouth and body shaking. You watched as Regulus hissed and reached out with clawed paws, trying to scratch at Barty, who was scrambling out the door and over to you.
"Damn, he put up a fight." Barty huffed, handing you the obviously unhappy cat.
"Thanks, Crouchy!" you smiled, now shoving Regulus into your coat. He let out a meow of protest as you ran down the hall and out the large double doors.
You could feel Regulus jerk in your arms as the cold air washed over his fur. You pulled him out of your coat, playfully swinging him in your arms. then he saw it: the pile of snow you were about to fling him into.
"3...2...1!" you yelled, tossing him into the pillowy white snow. A startled "mrow!" left the black cat's throat as he landed into it with a soft thud. He poked his head out, the snow on his head practically melting with how seething he was.
"Oh come on, Reg. Have some fun! Look-? Wait, where's Sirius?" Your question was answered as you saw Padfoot running over to the group and slamming into the pile of snow.
Laughter filled the air as Padfoot popped his head out and shook out his snow covered fur that resulted in Regulus getting covered in snow once again. Padfoot playfully nudged the angry cat, licking over his fur. You knelt down and gently scooped Regulus back up into your coat, planting a soft kiss onto his head, right between his ears. the look on his face said "I hate you" but in a "You're lucky I love you" way.
After hours of snowball fights, snow angels, and building snowmen, the sun was finally beginning to set on your wintertime activities. Yoi all made your way back inside, Regulus snuggly tucked into your coat and poking his head through your scarf. When you two arrived at his dorm, he hopped out of your arms and scurried into his closet. A few moments later, regulus walked out, wrapped in a blanket and shivering rather dramatically.
"Don't ever take me out in the cold again." he said through chittering teeth.
"But, wasn't that fun? At least you were warmer in your cat form, no?" you teased, walking over to him and cupping his face in your hands.
"Cold!" he yelped, jumping back from the frosty touch of your fingers. A smirk formed on your face as you looked at your hands, then back at your boyfriend.
"Y/n, don't-" you stepped closer to him, his eyes darting around the room.
"Y/n- AH!" you immediately charged at him, chasing him around the room as he desperately tried to avoid your freezing cold hands.
"Get over here!" you giggled, cornering him against his bed. you moved to straddle him, your thighs on either side of his waist.
"Wait, Y/n, please!" the poor boy pleaded, trying not to laugh at the determined look in your eyes.
"I can't hear you!" you teased, quickly slipping your hands underneath the blanket and pressing them to his sides.
"GAH!" The yelp that left his throat had you laughing till your throat was sore, Regulus grabbing your wrists to get you off of him.
"Ah! Please, have mercy!" Regulus mumbled weakly, a shiver running through his whole body as you leaned closer to him, that ridiculous smirk still on your face.
"Want me to help you warm up?" you whispered, your warm breath wafting over his lips that twitched in response.
"I guess..." Regulus mumbled, trying to fight the smile forming on his lips.
You smiled at his attempt to seem upset, leaning over and softly kissing his pouty lips. An audible "mmm" rumbled through his chest as he slowly forgot about the icy touch of your hands that were creeping up his bare sides and focused on the warmth emanating from your body and the kiss.
As you tilted your head to deepen the kiss, you felt Regulus sneak his hands underneath your shirt, pressing his semi-cold hands to your skin. You yelped softly into the kiss, pulling away to scold him.
"Mhm, how do you like them apples?" the dark haired male quipped, earning himself a playful pinching of his sides.
"How about we both get changed into more comfortable, warmer clothes and we can cuddle up together in the common room, hm? I'll even make you that tea you like so much." Regulus couldn't pass up that offer.
"I'll think about it." That ultimately meant yes, your lips now pressing to his nose before letting him go.
The rest of the night was spent in the common room, you and the others chatting the night away and laughing over steaming mugs of hot chocolate and freshly brewed tea. Regulus was practically glued to your hip, curled up under a blanket with you and letting you rest your head on his shoulder.
Even though he didn't like the cold, Regulus always felt all warm and fuzzy inside seeing just how happy you were whenever winter rolled around. âď¸

hair - @into-the-jeggyverse - wc: 689
James Potter had always been a bit reckless. His wild hair was a reflection of his untamed personalityâchaotic, energetic, and charming in a disheveled sort of way. But lately, heâd grown tired of battling his mane every morning. It was untamable, sticking up in every direction no matter how much he tried to smooth it down.
This morning, James decided heâd take matters into his own handsâor rather, his wand. He vaguely remembered a spell heâd read in a book about hair styling, something about taming unruly locks. So, he woke up extra early, careful not to disturb the peaceful slumber of his boyfriend, Regulus Black, who was nestled under the covers beside him.
James padded over to the bathroom, wand in hand, muttering the incantation under his breath. âCapillus Mutatio!â A soft glow emanated from his wand, and he felt a strange tingling sensation on his scalp. For a brief, blissful moment, he thought it had worked.
But when he glanced in the mirror, his heart sank. His hair was no longer wild and messy, but it was also no longer brown. Instead, it was an obnoxiously bright, golden blonde.
âOh no,â James groaned, running his fingers through his now flaxen locks. âOh, no, no, no.â He scrambled to recall the counter-spell, but the words slipped from his memory like water through a sieve. Frantically, he tried a few guesses, but none of them worked. The blonde hair remained, mocking him with its dazzling brightness.
A groggy voice from the bedroom made his stomach drop. âJames? Whatâs going on?â
Regulusâs voice was soft and sleep-laden, but James could tell he was waking up. Heâd been hoping to fix this disaster before Regulus noticed, but there was no time now. Bracing himself, James stepped back into the bedroom.
Regulus was sitting up, rubbing his eyes. His dark curls were mussed from sleep, and the blanket was draped lazily over his lap. He blinked up at James, his gray eyes narrowing in confusion.
âWhat the bloody hell happened to your hair?â he asked, his voice sharp with disbelief.
James offered a sheepish smile. âGood morning to you too, love.â
Regulusâs eyes widened as he fully took in the sight before him. âItâs⌠blonde.â
âYeah,â James said, scratching the back of his neck. âI tried to do a spell to tame it, and, uh, it backfired.â
Regulus stared at him for a long moment before sighing deeply. âOf course, it did. Why didnât you just ask me to help?â
âI didnât want to bother you,â James mumbled, shifting his weight awkwardly. âI thought I could handle it.â
Before Regulus could respond, the door to their flatâs living room opened, and Siriusâs voice rang out. âOi! Is anyone else awake?â
Jamesâs face paled. âOh no. Sirius is going to have a field day with this.â
Regulus smirked, his initial irritation giving way to amusement. âYouâre right. He absolutely is.â
Moments later, Sirius appeared in the doorway, his eyes instantly zeroing in on James. His expression morphed from confusion to delight. âMerlinâs beard! What happened to you, Prongs?â
âNothing,â James said quickly, trying to sidestep Siriusâs scrutiny.
âNothing?â Sirius repeated, laughing. âYour hairâs bloody blonde! Did you finally decide to embrace your inner diva?â
James groaned, running a hand through his hair again. âIt was a mistake, alright? The spell backfired.â
Sirius doubled over with laughter, clutching his stomach. âThis is brilliant. Iâm never letting you live this down.â
âYouâre not helping,â James muttered, his ears turning red.
Regulus, to Jamesâs surprise, let out a soft chuckle. âYou do look ridiculous,â he admitted, though his tone was fond.
James sighed, throwing his hands up in defeat. âFine. Mock away. Just⌠can someone help me fix it?â
Regulus slid out of bed, crossing the room to stand in front of James. He reached up, threading his fingers through Jamesâs blonde locks.
âI suppose I could be persuaded to help,â he said, a small smile tugging at his lips.
James grinned down at him, his embarrassment momentarily forgotten. âYouâre the best, you know that?â
Regulus rolled his eyes. âDonât push your luck, Potter.â

Gilded Constellations | (wolfstar x reader)

Summary: You meet Sirius and Regulus at a family vacation in the Caribbean, but things don't go as planned and you end up losing contact once the trip is over. Years later your family moves to England and you get accepted at Hogwarts where you finally meet Sirius once again, along with all of his friends. One of them with a mysterious secret, that you'll uncover as you embark on your own Hogwarts adventure. Mostly canon-compliant. This IS a wolfstar x reader fic, but it's incredibly slow burn. They won't start all dating each other until we're very deep into the story, but I promise the long wait will be worth it.

A/N: Most Poly!Marauders fics are oneshots, where the relationship between characters is already established, and they're all happy and pleased with it. No issues, no drama, but I WANTED the drama. Couldn't find it, so I set myself up to write the story behind the stablished relationship. I wanted to know how they started dating each other, the jealousy, the will they won't they, because getting into a poly relationship can't be an easy task, and I wanted to explore that story. If you're interested: Welcome to Gilded Constellations!

okay ideaâŚc1 with regulus and a reader who is either very clumsy or very sick and he canât help but dote over her and take care of her <33
terribly sorry if you are not a moonwater girlie, but this request has been hijacked into a poly!moonwater fic đ i love them, your honour
Prompt: C.1 "I want nothing more than to kiss away all your pain"
Words: 1.9k
Warnings/tags: fem!reader, references to injuries, light sickness/illness, regulus being a Worried Boyfriend, remus being a Doting Mediator, light hurt/comfort, nauseating amounts of fluff, sirius being the butt of the joke, literally just cuddles massages and kisses

You apparently see your daily life as one long continuous extreme sport, and thus, so are the lives of Regulus and Remus, whose hearts are always working overtime to handle the stress of your near-death experiences.
When Regulus ran up to Remus, slightly red in the face and already huffing and puffing, Remus knew for a fact that you were the cause of his concern. Others might have read his body language as angry, but Remus knew this to be his boyfriendâs mother hen instincts kicking in â which means his were about to, too.
âWhatâs she do?â Remus sighed as he stood up from his seat outside the Great Hall, already throwing his bookbag over his shoulder, prepared to walk off.
âSheâs in the infirmary,â Regulus hissed, grabbing Remus by the arm to pull him away, barely slowing down his gait.
âOi! You canât just run off!âÂ
Remus, admittedly, had forgotten that his best friend â his boyfriendâs brother, mind you â was sitting with him and was in the middle of chatting his ear off when he spotted Regulus. âSorry, Pads, Iâll catch you later,â he tried calling over his shoulder as Regulus wholeheartedly ignored him.
âWhat?! Hey, noââ Sirius all but sputtered, self-righteously undignified by the whole ordeal, as if this was not a common occurrence by now. James began patting his back not much unlike one would do a child, placating him with whispers, no doubt about all the mess they could get into without Remusâ supervision.
âWhy is she in the infirmary?â Remus asked when he was able to return his full attention to the boy whose breathing was still a bit too quick for comfort. He had half a mind to begin taking care of him instead and calm him down, but for now he settled for pulling him further into his side as they walked.
âI donât know,â Regulus bit out through clenched teeth. âPandora just told me in passing that she had seen her in there. I have no idea what she has gotten herself into this time. Youâre lucky I walked past you on the way there, otherwise you would have been the last to know.â
Remus mulled over it for a moment, visualising your schedule that he memorised months ago. âShe had Care for Magical Creatures last period, right?â
Regulusâ head whipped to the side to stare at him incredulously, clearly not having pieced that together yet. Though it was hard to tell, it seemed like his face had paled. His grip on Remusâ arm migrated to interlocking their elbows so he could more effectively drag Remus along as he sped up at the thought of what could have happened.
One of the things Remus most enjoyed about your relationship was getting to know the small quirks of yours and Regulus', your signs and your tells. For Regulus to forget all about Remusâ aching joints and rushing him along without ample support meant that he was beyond stressed on your behalf. Had Regulus not been here, Remus would have been much the same, thoughts able to spiral into the darkest of places when left to his own devices â alas, he was, so Remus collected himself appropriately and tried to be the grounded one.
âSheâll be alright,â he murmured as they turned the last corner before the infirmary.Â
âShe bloody better be,â Regulus huffed, voice laced with concern and poorly-hidden devotion. âBecause I will be having a word with her about not prioritising her health and safety.â
Remus squared his shoulders, prepared to play the dual role of mediator and concerned boyfriend, perhaps with a touch of nurse as well, if necessary.Â
âGood afternoon, Poppy,â he greeted warmly when he saw Madam Pomfrey by the entrance, giving Regulusâ arm a subtle tug to make him slow down. If there was one thing the matron did not tolerate, it was disturbances in her little wing.
âOh, Remus, are there any concerns today?â she asked, tilting her head in confusion as this visit did not line up with their usual cycle of visits. Quickly, her eyes drifted over to Regulus, whose face was still noticeably flushed and realisation dawned on her face. âAh, I see. Sheâs to the left, three beds down. Though I would advise keeping a distance.â
Regulusâ eyes widened almost comically at the last comment, letting go of Remus in favour of stalking down the hall as quickly as Madam Pomfrey would allow. Remus had to admit his own heart twisted in worried confusion as he gave a small smile and thanks before hurrying after his boyfriend.
He saw Regulus slip between some white privacy curtains mere seconds before he was able to follow himself. âAmour!â he heard Regulus say, abandoning any attempt to conceal his worry.
Remus held his breath as he drew the curtain back just enough to enter your little makeshift alcove, expecting the worst. Surely, he would find you with your leg elevated in a large cast, bloodied bandages all over your face or arms, hair half burnt off.
Instead he heard a small sniffle and your flushed face came into view where it poked out from beneath heaps of wool blankets.
âOh, hi lovelies,â you murmured in the sweetest tone but with the most painful rasp Remus had heard in a while. It was immediately followed by a fit of coughs.
âOh, dovey,â Remus cooed pathetically, rushing to sit down on the side of your bed. Regulus was still standing by the curtain, mouth slightly agape as he took in the scene.
This clearly was not what either of them had expected.
âWhat happened to you lovely girl, hm?â Remus whispered to you, perhaps with a small hope that you would reply in an equally low tone and spare your clearly hoarse voice.
You were truly bundled up under mountains of blankets, messy hair, glossy eyes and runny nose the only visible part of your body. The bedside table was littered with used handkerchiefs, paper towels and small plastic cups used to take potions. Some bottles of potion Remus identified as cold treatments were placed on the edge with a little note with jotted down time stamps. You looked absolutely, thoroughly poorly.Â
âIâm sick,â you said hoarsely. You made a noise that sounded like choked laughter, likely at how terrible you sounded, but it just made it worse.
âWe can see that, amour.â Regulusâ voice had become ten times softer, and he sat down on the other side of the bed from Remus, reaching out to cup your surely overheated face with his perpetually-cold hand. Remus could feel the phantom touch as his fingers ghosted over the apple of your cheek.Â
âDonât be rude,â you whispered cheekily, but you leaned into his touch with a sigh. âI look perfectly happy and healthy.â
Regulus snorted that laugh he only ever let slip around you two. âYou do look beautiful as always. Though perhaps a bit like youâre on your deathbed, which you know youâre not allowed to be.â
You groaned, stretching your body beneath the tangle of blankets. âUgh, I know,â you huffed, sounding pained. âI feel like it, too. Woke up feeling a bit, I donât know, stuffy, but I tried to head off to class,â â Regulus made a disapproving sound, but let you continue â âand then I just really came down with it in Astronomy. Didnât even make it to Magical Creatures.â
At least that's a relief.
âYou should have stayed in bed if you woke up feeling poorly, love,â Remus murmured, fishing for your hand beneath the blankets. You happily gave it to him and his heart keened at how you seemed to crave his touch.Â
âBut I didnât know I felt poorly poorly. Just⌠poorly. You know?â
Remus sighed almost dreamily. âI donât.â
At the same time, Regulus softly said, âYouâre not making much sense, pretty girl.â
You groaned your way through a voice crack, turning your head into the pillow on the side Regulus wasnât lightly caressing. âI feel like the fever is eating at my brain.â
Both boys hummed in sympathy. Remus fought the urge to manhandle Regulus into bed beside you so he could hold you both and shield you from the world.
âItâs alright, amour. Sirius has survived 17 years without a brain, so you can surely manage at reduced capacity for a day or two.â He wore a cheeky smile from the beginning of the sentence, evidently proud of the opportunity to jab at his older brother.
Remus would have to deny it if Sirius asked, but he barked a laugh.
âThatâs not very nice, Reggie,â you almost whimpered, though you too were smiling too. âI donât have the energy to tell you off for being mean to your brother.â
âWell, at least we got one good thing out of your suffering,â Regulus offered, and his smile grew genuine when you laughed at that and lightly shoved his shoulder â clearly his end goal.
You furrowed your brows and brought your unoccupied hand up to rub by your temple. âI really do feel horrid, though. I might have to stay here overnight.â
âYou poor sweet thing,â Remus cooed in sympathy. He lightly guided your hand back to lay on your chest as he brought his hands up to massage carefully at both of your temples, moving his thumb in slow circles. Regulus let his hand move from your cheek to drift through your hair so Remus could have space, calming the chaos of frizz caused by your time in bed. Your sigh sounded heavenly as you sunk further back into the pillows and let your eyes drift shut. âWeâll take care of you, yeah? Nurse you back to health?â
You hummed your approval, small tug at the corner of your lips that warmed his heart.
Regulus used the spell Sirius had constructed to expand the infirmary beds during Remusâ monthly stays, adding enough space for him to lay down beside you. When Sirius made it, it had originally been with the intention of the Marauders huddling together, but it was quickly capitalised on by you and Regulus. He got more comfortable beside you, head on the pillow next to yours where he continued playing with your hair in that way he knew soothed you. Remus remained sitting so he could give your face and scalp ample attention, relieving you of your tension headache with practiced ease.
âThank you,â you mumbled, voice muddled by your hoarseness and oncoming sleepiness. Remus just smiled in response, trusting you would know it even when you couldnât see it.
âOf course, amour,â Regulus whispered in turn, sounding more emotional than usual when confronted with your vulnerable state. This was nowhere close to the scolding-deserving mishap he had expected to find in the infirmary. âI want nothing more than to kiss away all your pain.â
âWell, you shouldnât,â you huffed then. âI donât want you getting sick.â
Regulus let out a breathy laugh and kissed your forehead defiantly, bottom lip brushing against Remusâ thumb and shooting pleasurable tingles up along his skin. âToo bad, lovely. Weâre both staying here.â He looked up through his long eyelashes to meet Remusâ eyes, face scrunching up in affection with his lips still ghosting over your skin.
âMost certainly,â Remus whispered over the honeyed love that coated his throat and tongue. âWe will nurse you right back to health, dovey. You just sleep now.â

hi! i saw in one of your posts you wrote about how Sirius Black had no reason to bully Snape and i thought about itâŚ..i mean doesn't his hatred seem too personal? we have Lupin who has no contact with Snape after book 3 but Sirius goes crazy when Snape is around and they are alone so he can attack him (kitchen scene in book 5). and he knows so much about him: who he hung out with at school, his relationship with Lucius; at the same time he doesn't know about the mark, about how Severus was the one who brought the prophecy to voldemort that led to Lily and James death. and yes he is stuck at age 21 but even then they graduated school and as he says they never heard of Snape in those years. It seems a bit odd: don't bullies usually try to downplay their role in what they did to the victim, or even try to make it look like nothing happened? And he and Remus try to do that with Harry, but at the same time he seems incredibly proud and pleased with himself when he talks about the prank. One moment confused me when I was reading book 3: when Sirius has Peter at gunpoint with his wand, he is extremely focused on him. He doesn't take his eyes off him, because it was for this moment, the act of revenge, that he escaped from prison. As far as I remember, Harry describes it as "nothing could distract him at that moment" or something like that. But as soon as Remus even mentions Snape, Sirius' attention suddenly switches: he turns away from Peter and asks about him again. Or when he watches Snape during the OWL exams??? Especially when Rowling describes his reaction after the exam, when he sees him under the tree, as the reaction of a dog to a rabbit. He seems so obsessed and like something happened between them that really got to him. Or he's just as intolerant of half-bloods as his family. I completely agree with you that Sirius bullied Snape simply because James did it and he found it funny. But his hatred seems excessive, he has no reason to hate Snape so much. James has his excuse about Lily, but Sirius has none of that. But he still tries to kill him and it doesn't really matter hides, lol. I've read an opinion that he hates him because of his unrequited feelings for James, where Severus is the reason James even noticed Lily, which I don't really agree with, to be honest. Sorry, it got too long, ahaha. What I want to ask is: do you have any thoughts on this?
Well, the explanation for his relationships at school is quite simple because Sirius doesnât leave home until heâs 16. Considering that his brother goes to Slytherin and that Narcissa is his cousin, itâs not strange to deduce that Snapeâs name, along with other Slytherin students, probably came up at some family dinner/lunch/meeting. Like, talking about who in Regulus and Siriusâ year might have âpotential,â for example. It seems coherent to me that, considering Siriusâ environment until he leaves to live with the Potters, heâd be aware of certain things.
Leaving that aside, letâs talk about Sirius Black, because I think in recent years the Marauders fandom has ruined this character, and heâs actually a character with a lot of depth. Or at least more than many others in the saga.
(This is gonna ne so fucking long lol)
Sirius is a posh kid. Heâs a posh kid who is embarrassed about being posh and feels guilty about it. Heâs the typical rich kid from a conservative family whoâs had issues with his mom (in this case) and his way of getting back at everything he felt was missing from his childhood is to vehemently oppose everything he thinks she represents. And the funniest part is that (as is often the case) his problem with his mom is that they both have a terrible character, which is why they clash. Because Sirius has the kind of terrible character that is incompatible with anyone else who has the same terrible character. But despite everything, heâs still a posh kid. Because he comes from an aristocratic family and was raised with those values of superiority. Because heâs never had to fend for himself (he leaves home but goes to another rich family, the Potters, and on top of that, his uncle Alphard leaves him his entire inheritance, so he has plenty of money) and he has always enjoyed the privilege of his surname, his blood status, and the fact that heâs (according to Rowling) super handsome. In other words, Sirius belongs to the ruling class and behaves with the same arrogance, entitlement, and lack of empathy that is typical of that class. No matter how much he tries to deny it and distance himself from it, he can only do so on a superficial level (Muggle posters, being a Gryffindor, enchanting a Muggle motorcycle) because when it comes down to it, he has no idea how to deconstruct himself, nor is he interested in giving up or losing his privileges, because heâs quite comfortable with them. Heâs like the typical aristocratic kid from an Opus Dei family who thinks heâs better than everyone around him because he votes for the left and has been to four protests, but at the end of the day, he still lives a bourgeois life and doesnât understand the root of social problems.
That said, letâs move on to James.
I think James was everything Sirius wanted to be. No, not be, I think James had everything Sirius wanted to have: loving parents, a family that wasnât involved in a cult, a pleasant environment that allowed him to do whatever he wanted instead of being constrained by traditions and social norms, liberal and progressive ideals⌠James had the life Sirius had always wanted, but with one key detail: he was also rich and from an old, prestigious family. This is super important because when Sirius chooses his rebellion partner, he doesnât pick some random Muggle-born, or a half-blood, or someone from the middle or lower class. Sirius chooses as his best friend someone who embodies everything he wants to be/have, but who at the same time belongs to his same social stratum, both economically and in blood status. Sirius chooses a future Gryffindor rebel with very different ideas from his family, but ironically he chooses like anyone from his family would: someone with money, status, and power. And I find this super amusing because itâs so coherent with his character. I mean, if Sirius were a real person, he wouldâve done the same thing because guys like him are like that: the kings of cognitive dissonance and double standards.
Sirius always wanted Jamesâ validation, or at least thatâs how I see it. I think for him, feeling that James approved of what he did was a way to legitimize himself as someone different from his family. James represented the âprogressiveâ social elite that Sirius aspired to by rejecting the traditional values imposed on him. So, unconsciously, he understood that if he did everything James wanted, and Iâll go further, everything he thought James would like, then he would distance himself from that Black image and gain validation as something entirely opposite. The problem is that Sirius, unlike James, was raised in an environment where ethical and moral values were very different, and where it was clearly established that certain people were âthe other,â an âotherâ sociologically understood as the idea that some humans are inherently less than others. And although Sirius consciously rejected this idea, unconsciously he had been raised with it. Therefore, consciously, he didnât reject people based on their blood status because he could identify that as something his family would do, and family = bad. But unconsciously, he was conditioned to see other people as non-people, and this is where Severus comes into play.
James dislikes Severus because he sees him as an obstacle/threat/nuisance in his crush on Lily. By default, and because of that constant need for validation from James, Sirius also focuses on him as a hostile element. And if heâs hostile to James, who in a way is his moral compass, then that guy must be trash because, of course, itâs obvious. But not only that, this guy is also a half-blood and poor, so poor he wears old clothes. And on top of that, heâs ugly. And not very masculine. So he has all the elements for Sirius, the aristocrat raised in luxury under the premise that heâs better than others because of his origins, to see him as âthe otherâ and exercise all his power and privilege to oppress him without remorse, because for him, itâs justified. Justified unconsciously by the education he received, and consciously because if James hates him, there must be a good reason to hate him, so everything is justified. If we add to that the fact that Severus desires everything Sirius has always tried to reject: more social status, more recognition, power, belonging to Slytherin, rubbing shoulders with important wizards, forgetting the Muggle world he grew up in⌠well, we have a molotov cocktail for him to make Severusâ life unbearable. And Severus is an easy target for someone like school-age Sirius Black: he has no friends, no surname, no parents to protect him, and no stable socio-economic situation. Sirius can project all his frustrations onto him without any consequences. He can completely dehumanize him and stop seeing him as a person. He can behave like a Black.
I think the Prank is a good example to see the difference in upbringing between Sirius and James. Both are bullies, both are abusers, both have zero remorse when it comes to using their status and power to make life impossible for those they believe deserve it. But James was raised in an environment where he knows that actions have consequences, that you canât cross âcertain lines,â such as murder, for example. Sirius was taught the oppositeâhe was raised to think that the life of âthe otherâ holds no value, and that is something that in his story with Severus goes too far. James understands that death is something serious and can bring terrible consequences, while Sirius does not. For the Black family, death is nothing if there is a reason for the person to die, and Sirius has his own reasons for playing with Severusâ life the way Bellatrix would play with the life of any Muggle-born.
(This is something I really like as wellâthe way Sirius and Bellatrix are fundamentally alike, and how little thatâs discussed. But Iâll leave that for another time, otherwise I wonât finish.)
I donât think itâs a matter of Sirius being obsessed with Snape, but rather that, for all the reasons Iâve explained, he uses Severus as a catalyst for his repressed anger and that sadism he inherited from his family. He canât channel it toward anyone else because that would lead to absolute rejection from James. Since James hates and despises Severus, heâs never going to question Sirius for channeling all his pent-up rage on him, so itâs a free pass. If he had reached that level of sadism with someone who didnât provoke the same level of animosity in James as Severus did, he would have risked confronting his biggest fear: that James would see him as a Black, not as Sirius. Losing his validation as the black sheep to become just another one of them. So he focuses on Severus because itâs a safe bet.
Moving on to their relationship during the book canonâŚ
We donât really see a proper confrontation until the fifth book. I mean, in the third, it shows that Sirius still sees Severus as âotherâ by dragging him along while unconsciously banging his head. In the fourth, thereâs that scene where Dumbledore forces them to shake hands, and itâs clear they still hate each other. But itâs not until the fifth book that we get a real confrontation, where Sirius loses his temper. I think this has a lot to do with (drumroll) once again that cognitive dissonance between what Sirius always wanted to be and what he actually is, especially given the role he plays on the chessboard at that point in the story.
Sirius did everything he could to distance himself from his family, and the climax of that was joining the Order of the Phoenix and actively fighting against that same family, several members of whom were âsoldiersâ for the opposite side. Sirius is finally achieving what he wantsâto be a hero. To stop being part of the elite dark villains and instead be part of the heroic elite. The noble of high birth who fights valiantly for the good of the realm, just as James was destined to be. Itâs the climax, the absolute fulfillment of his adolescent desire. But then heâs thrown into Azkaban, and when he gets out, he finds that the poor, weird kid addicted to dark arts, who sucked up to future dark wizards, who hung out with purists and even joined the âbad sideââthe side of Siriusâ family, the villainsâis now the most important member of the Order. Heâs none other than Dumbledoreâs right hand. Heâs a double agent risking his neck every day and has more responsibility than anyone else. That kid Sirius called Snivellus for being a crybaby has more guts and more endurance than most people. The one who always wanted to be part of the elite Sirius hated is now the one playing them all, making them look like idiots. The one who looked frail and effeminate turns out to be more âmanly.â And that hurts. That hurts a lot. You go to prison, and when you get out, the person you didnât even consider a person not only ranks above you, but is playing in a league you canât aspire to. And the best part is, Sirius canât fully accept it because heâs still Siriusâa classist, privileged aristocrat incapable of accepting that (as is only logical) the poor working-class kid turned out to be far more useful than him in both politics and war.
To me, itâs poetic justice.

The library of Hogwarts was silent, only the soft rustle of parchment and the occasional scratch of a quill breaking the stillness. The dim light from the lamps cast long shadows across the room, and the air was heavy with the scent of old books and ink. You sat at a large oak desk, books and notes scattered in front of you as your eyes strained to focus on yet another page of your Potions textbook.
For the past week, you had been living in a bubble of pressureâpressure you couldnât seem to escape. OWLs were approaching faster than you had anticipated, and it seemed like every waking hour was spent revising. Your parents were nothing but loving and supportive, but their expectations felt like chains. They never said it explicitly, but you knew. Your older brother had never been the academic one, and all the hopes and dreams your parents had for him had quietly shifted onto you. You had to be perfect. You had to succeed where he hadnât.
You ran a hand through your hair, your fingers shaking slightly as they brushed against your scalp. You couldnât remember the last time you had eaten a proper meal, let alone slept through the night. Every minute felt like a countdown, every second wasted was a failure waiting to happen. The weight of it all sat heavily on your chest, suffocating you.
Across the library, Regulus Black stood in the doorway, his sharp grey eyes watching you with concern. He had been silently observing you for days, growing more and more worried as you buried yourself in your studies, neglecting your health in the process. Regulus was never one to express his emotions easily, but the sight of you like thisâso fragile, so wornâwas tearing at him.
He crossed the room quietly, his presence so familiar that you didnât even glance up when he sat down beside you.
âLove,â he said softly, his voice gentle, yet firm. âYou need to stop.â
You didnât respond at first, your quill still scratching against the parchment as you scribbled down more notes. Your mind was racing, calculating how much time you had left, how much more you needed to memorize.
âLove,â Regulus said again, this time placing a hand on top of yours, stilling your movements. âPlease.â
You paused, finally looking up at him. His eyes searched yours, and you could see the worry etched into his features.
âIâm fine,â you lied, your voice barely a whisper.
Regulus shook his head, his grip tightening slightly around your hand. âNo, youâre not.â
You tried to pull your hand away, but he held firm. âReg, I need toââ
âNo,â he interrupted, his voice suddenly sharper. âYou need to take care of yourself. You havenât eaten, you havenât slept. Youâre killing yourself over this.â
The words hit you like a punch to the gut, and for a moment, you couldnât breathe. The pressure you had been keeping at bay suddenly surged forward, crashing over you like a wave. Your eyes stung with unshed tears, and your throat tightened as you struggled to keep it all inside.
âI canât,â you choked out, your voice trembling. âI canât fail. I canât disappoint them.â
Regulusâs expression softened, and he gently cupped your face with both hands, forcing you to meet his gaze. âYouâre not going to fail, love. But you donât have to carry this all by yourself.â
A sob bubbled up from your chest, and you shook your head, tears spilling over your cheeks. âThey expect so much from me. Theyâve always expected me to be the best becauseâbecause he never was. Iâm the only one who can make them proud.â
Regulus pulled you into his arms without hesitation, holding you tightly as the dam inside you finally broke. You clung to him, your body shaking with the force of your sobs. All the pressure, all the fear, all the exhaustion poured out of you as Regulus held you close, his hand gently rubbing your back.
âYou donât have to be perfect,â he murmured into your hair. âYouâre enough, just as you are. And your parentsâthey love you. Theyâll be proud of you no matter what.â
You shook your head against his chest, your tears soaking into his shirt. âYou donât understand.â
âI do,â he whispered. âMore than you know.â
For a long time, you stayed there, wrapped in his arms as you let yourself break. The weight on your chest eased just a little, and for the first time in what felt like forever, you allowed yourself to be vulnerable, to let someone else carry some of the burden.
When your sobs finally subsided, you pulled back slightly, wiping at your tear-streaked face with trembling hands. Regulus looked at you with such tenderness that it made your heart ache.
âPromise me,â he said quietly, âthat youâll take care of yourself. OWLs arenât worth destroying yourself over.â
You sniffled, nodding weakly. âI promise.â
He gave you a small, reassuring smile before standing up and offering you his hand. âCome on. Letâs get you something to eat from the elves. Youâll study better once youâve rested.â
You hesitated for a moment, glancing back at the pile of books on the desk. But then you looked at Regulusâat the warmth in his eyes, the quiet strength he offeredâand you took his hand.
As he led you out of the library, you realized that maybe, just maybe, you didnât have to carry the weight of the world on your own. You had someone who would catch you when you fell, someone who would remind you that it was okay to be human.
And in that moment, it was enough.
